Principal's News

I would like to thank all the parents for being so understanding with the changes in how the children are receiving their learning. We didn't expect to be in the current situation in regards to COVID - 19 again. The school now has minimal staff each day and a small number of children.  All classroom teachers are working from home. While we are in stage 4 restrictions any children who are here will be located in the Senior School. With so few people on site, there is no need to have the whole school open.

If your child is absent during home learning, please contact the office via phone or message your child’s teacher on SeeSaw.

It is going to be a difficult time for everyone with the new restrictions. Being restricted to 5 kilometres from home and only 1 person from the household being allowed to go to the shops will put a lot of strain on families and relationships. This is a time to try and support everyone around you as much as possible. I think everyone will have friends or family who has lost work and income and find it difficult to pay their bills. We need to pray that if everyone does what is expected at the moment and stays home except for food and medical reasons the number of cases of COVID will drop quicker than expected and restrictions can maybe start to ease by the end of this month.

With Google Meets and other similar apps, we can keep in touch with other people without leaving home. We need to keep in mind people we know who live by themselves. I have friends that I phone every week to check up on how they are doing. Small things like a quick call to someone can lift their wellbeing.

The home learning will continue as it has done up to now with the teachers interacting directly with the children online. We hope that it all goes smoothly. Interacting directly with the students is working very well. If there are any issues with accessing learning please let us know as soon as possible and we will do best to sort out any problems. The teachers will be contacting parents regularly to have a catch and offer assistance if there are any difficulties with the children's learning.

The Community Wellbeing Day scheduled for Friday, August 14 has been postponed. Students are expected to log on and attend home learning on this day. We will update you about when this will occur in the next newsletter.

If families are experiencing hardship at this time with paying school fees please contact me at school so that we can support you.

Finally, Prep enrolments for 2021 are open! If you have a child or know of someone with a school-aged child who would like to attend our school please email me at prinicpal@hfdoveton.catholic.edu.au

Everyone keep safe and we all look forward to welcoming our families back when things are under control.
