MGC Farewells the Year 12 Class of 2022

Year 12 Celebration week was a wonderful opportunity for us all to come together in our final week of school to create long-lasting memories and reflect on our past 6 years at MGC.

The week began with ‘Teacher Vs Student’ dodgeball in the gym at lunch. It was a great way to get active and unleash our competitive spirit!

On Wednesday, year 12 dress-up days began, starting with ‘On Wednesday’s We Wear Pink’. Year 12’s creatively changed their uniform in all kinds of ways, adding touches of pink wherever they could. They most definitely did it in style!

Thursday was ‘Throwback Thursday’. Some year 12’s wore their primary school uniforms whilst others brought it way back to the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Friday was ‘Famous Friday’. Year 12’s wore all types of outfits and the teachers even decided to wear the MGC school uniform because of course, MGC students are famous! At lunch there was a wonderful surprise kindly organised by the Parent’s Association… an ice cream truck! A long line of year 12’s quickly gathered at the truck to enjoy some ice cream. Not long later, we came together for our final year 12 assembly in the study centre. We looked back on our memories throughout the year and there was a mix of both laughter and tears as our last official day of classes came to end. We were also given our wellbeing journals from year 7, filled with old memories and letters from our younger selves, our parents, guardians and friends.

On the following Monday we all came together bright and early at the park across the Yarra river to enjoy a BBQ breakfast. We were dressed in all kinds of outfits and whilst all of them were spectacular, the standout winners were Victoria Trentin and Maddy Bugaj’s ‘Carl and Russell’ outfit from the film ‘Up’. We then enjoyed our first whole school assembly of the year. It was amazing to see the whole school come together for the first time in almost three years, and it was the perfect opportunity to celebrate all of our achievements as a school throughout the past year. The energy in the gym during the assembly was overwhelming positive and the year 12 skits were comedic gold. We said our final goodbyes in traditional MGC fashion by running out of the school as the entire student cohort and teachers created a ‘Guard of Honour’ for us to run through. In the evening, all year 12 students, parents, guardians and teachers came together for the valedictory dinner at San Remo Ballroom in Carlton. We celebrated not only our own achievements, but those of our peers, and acknowledged the hard work and support we have received from our teachers and the wider MGC community along the way. It was the perfect culmination of time very well spent at MGC and at the end of the evening, the class of 2022 could officially say, “we have graduated!”.
