Year 10 Self Portrait Bust
The Year 10 students have completed a self-portrait sculpture unit using air-dry clay. The naturalistic sculptures were finished with a metallic patina to replicate the looks of cast metal sculpture. Some students elected to branch out and try their own creative patinas.
Each individual in the class worked really hard to develop their sculpting skills in order to create their own outstanding masterpieces. I could not be more proud of the whole class!
Year 10 Photography: Photograms
Students have been learning about Analogue Photography, in particular how to develop photographs in a darkroom. Photograms are photographs that are made in the darkroom without the use of a camera. Students developed a theme, brought a collection of objects into school which were opaque, translucent and transparent, they exposed their compositions in the darkroom using an enlarger. They then processed their photograms where the latent image is revealed.
Year 10 Visual Arts Figurative Cubism
After being introduced the work of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, the Year 10 Visual Arts class is embarking on a new Cubism unit that incorporates the human figure. Our art studio was temporarily transformed into an impromptu drawing room. The students developed their observational drawing skills before progressively developing their sketches into more abstracted representations using the Analytical and Synthetic Cubism principles. The students will use these initial sketches to develop a large scale final composition using mixed media. The students really enjoyed the challenges of this drawing process and a special thank you goes to our class model, Frankie.
Year 9 Gift Boxes
Based on their knowledge gained from the Art Deco and Art Nouveau, students designed the surface graphics for a Gift Box in the style of one or both of these design periods. They produced the three-dimensional packaging of their choice, either manually or digitally.
Year 8 Monogram Logo
Year 8 students designed a Monogram Logo based on the student's initials; first name and family name. The purpose of the work is:
- To understand how logos are used to inform and convey information
- To look at developing and presenting information in a variety of ways digitally
- To understand how colour can be used to create a logo’s image
Students explore the Design Elements of Type, Shape and Colour while utilising Adobe Illustrator to produce a logo. Year 8s learnt about the Design Process working and follow a ‘brief’ which includes design limitations.
