Chess Victoria Open Secondary State Final

On Monday 10th October, Glen Eira College participated in the Chess Victoria Open Secondary State Final, which was held at Brighton Grammar School. This was a huge event, which involved the participation of 232 students from 29 schools. The Glen Eira College team performed very well throughout the tournament and finished equal with another school in fourth place and only half a point behind the third placed school. This was an outstanding effort, not only because it was the first time that Glen Eira College had participated in a Chess Victoria State Final, but also because several of Victoria’s top junior chess players took part in this event.

Several Glen Eira College students achieved pleasing individual results in the tournament, but a special congratulation is due to Randheer Thogata in Year 7 who won 7 of his 8 games and James Robbs in Year 11 who won 6 of the 8 games that he played.

Congratulations to the following students who represented Glen Eira College in this event:

Year 11: George Fetsis & James Robbs

Chess Victoria Secondary Girls State Final

Glen Eira College was honoured to host the Chess Victoria Secondary and Primary Girls State Finals, which were held on Tuesday 11 October. 10 schools competed in the Secondary Girls State Final and the Glen Eira College team was the sixth best performing school in the tournament. This was a very respectable performance given that the College had not previously participated in this event. A special congratulations is due to Audrey Salinas in Year 7 who won 4 of the 7 games that she played.

Year 9: Noeleen Bautista & Genevieve Salinas
