Principal's News

Dear Parents and Carers,
How fortunate are we to have had the pleasure of having the grandparents at school for our Grandparents and special older persons day last Friday. The children had been eagerly preparing all week - writing odes and poems of thanks to their grandparents and creating artwork to give on the day or to have on display. We were overwhelmed by the response to this day particularly as we have been unable to invite our grandparents in for the last couple of years. In contrast to the unpredictable, sometimes blustery weather of the day, there was warmth in the community atmosphere. The Yr. 6 children warmly welcomed the nans and pas into the school, guiding them to their grandchild’s classes. The school was abuzz as children proudly showed their class work, took their visitors on a tour of the school and the artwork on display, read stories in the library and then shared a picnic lunch in the courtyard, multi purpose room and playground as the choir sang to conclude the event. Thank you again for making the time to be here with us.
Camps & Excursions
Term 4 is always a busy term for Camps and excursions. Last week the Year 3 children enjoyed a very informative day at Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre listening to stories, learning about tools used and how to throw a boomerang.
This morning we farewelled the Yr 4 classes as they begin their 2 day camp in Anglesea with beautiful weather forecast and the adventures of bike riding, canoeing and bodyboarding to look forward to. This camp is closely followed by the Foundation excursion to the Ballarat Wildlife Park this coming Thursday, where they will see the Australian animals they have been learning about in their current inquiry. The Yr 1 excursion to Queenscliff Marine Centre will take place on Friday 4th November while Yr 2 will be travelling to Werribee Zoo on Tuesday 29th November.
The excursions complement the work being done in the classrooms and we acknowledge the extra work that goes into planning and preparation for these fantastic real life experiences for the children.
All Saints Day/Mission Fete
It has become part of our school tradition to celebrate the Feast of all All Saints with a Mass here at school and our Mission Day Fete between recess and lunch, where we raise money for the work of Catholic Missions throughout the world. Planning is underway for these events to take place on Friday October 28th.
COVID-19 update
Last week the Victorian Government announced the end of the pandemic declaration and associated pandemic orders.
Advice for schools. Advice from Catholic Education Ballarat is:
- It is recommended that rapid antigen tests (RATs) are used when students are symptomatic.
- Parents/carers should inform the school if a student tests positive to COVID-19.
- Students who report a positive result are recommended to isolate for a minimum of 5 days and not attend school until their symptoms have resolved.
School Closure
A reminder to parents and carers that we will be closed on Monday, October 31st for Reporting. This is the day before the Melbourne Cup public holiday and so will mean a 4 day weekend.
