Turtle Art

In Foundation we have been looking at Indigenous artworks and we created some Indigenous inspired artwork of Turtles! We followed directions to draw a turtle and then decorated our turtles using water colour paint! The Foundations did an excellent job!

Marine turtles have lived in the oceans for over 100 million years. Marine turtles are an integral part of the traditional culture for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples living in coastal areas of northern Australia. Traditionally, turtles are hunted and this helps to maintain family relations (kinships) and social structure. There are important ceremonial and community purposes to hunting marine turtles. Furthermore, they provide valuable protein in regions with limited access to affordable fresh food.
