PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

MS MICHELLE HAEUSLER - PRINCIPAL

What an amazing time in history we have witnessed this past week.  Regardless of your personal opinions on the Royal family and the governance of Australia, the passing of Queen Elizabeth II may be, for many of us, a once in a lifetime experience. My mother recalled her recollections of the coronation of King Edward when she was a child. Her family went to the movie theatre to watch a film of the event. How the world has changed, with technology allowing us to know instantly of the news of the Queen’s death and then to be able to watch all of the events unfolding in real time.

The Queen was the Royal Patron or President of more than 600 charities, military associations, professional bodies and public service organisations. In 2012 it was reported that in the 60 years of her reign to that time, her work in service of others had generated around $2.3 billion for charities. May all of us that live in privilege give what we can for those less fortunate.

In Term 2 this year, Catherine Howison (Deputy Principal) participated in a Summative Appraisal of her role as Deputy Principal. This review was conducted by Tim O’Farrell (Education Consultant - Secondary, Catholic Education Ballarat) and Nicole Allen (Deputy Principal - Learning and Teaching, Emmanuel College, Altona North and Point Cook). The feedback from the report commended Catherine on many aspects of her role, including being highly supportive and approachable, her compassion and empathy for others in difficult situations and her passion and vision for Catholic education and St Mary MacKillop College.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Catherine Howison has been appointed as the Deputy Principal of St Mary MacKillop College for a further five years.

Next week families will receive a letter from me outlining details of the new uniform items and policy from 2023. This is a very exciting time for our school and will bring our uniform in line with societal expectations around workwear, as well as providing for comfort.

I hope that everyone in our community has a restful break from school. All the best to our Year 12 students who will begin practice exams and extended study for their upcoming exams.  And finally, on behalf of the Canteen Staff, “Go the Pies!”
