AJASS IMMERSION
OTTO CONLAN, GRACE DOHERTY & ANNA WHITING - YEAR 10 STUDENTS
On Sunday the 10th of September, we flew to Tasmania on an AJASS Immersion. We were very excited to represent St Mary MacKillop College on this pilgrimage. During our time in Tasmania, we joined eighteen other students from various AJASS schools around Victoria and Tasmania, we learnt about the lives of St Mary MacKillop, Julian Tenison Woods and the Josephite nuns. We spent a large part of our time at the Josephite Historic Centre in Hobart gaining a better understanding of the work of Julian Tenison Woods and St Mary MacKillop, how they moved around Tasmania, opened schools in remote areas, taught and looked after people in these communities. We travelled to Geeveston, Richmond and Oatlands which were some of the towns where the Josephite nuns opened schools and provided children with the opportunity to gain an education. We heard about the hardships the nuns endured and the dedication and commitment they showed towards God.
Over the three days in Tasmania, we formed strong bonds with each other and enjoyed all the different experiences that we encountered, developing a deeper understanding of the charism of St Mary MacKillop.
