1st XI (Trial) v St Augustine’s College @ Oxford Falls #1 – Saturday 15 October 2022

A beautiful day for cricket dawned for the final trial match for the 1st XI at Oxford Falls. Joel Austin, having won the toss and deciding to bat first, led from the front by constructing an impressive 83. His two very good partnerships with Manas Bansal (19) and Will Pavely (29) placed the team in a strong position after 34 overs. Darcy Aylmer (24), Oli Freeman (21) and Lachie Jursevic (11 not out) finished the innings off strongly with SPX achieving 7-208 after 50 overs. Early wickets to Mitch McGrath (4 wickets for 12 runs) and Jesse Mansbridge (2-8) left the opposition teetering at 4 for 11. A good spell from Andrew May (1-12) was followed by a penetrative five overs from Lachie Jusevic who finished with the fine figures of 3-2. The catching from the SPX team was excellent; Will Pavely grabbing three catches at first slip, Oli Freeman three catches including two fine diving efforts as wicketkeeper and Joel Austin a low chance at cover. St Augustine’s were bowled out for 92 in the 36th over. A pleasing all round performance was completed by the home team in preparation for the start of the ISA competition next week. Mr Rodgers
