Primary Sport

Speed and Agility Program 

A person’s attitude to sport and physical activity is often shaped by their experiences as a child or adolescent. The Speed and Agility program is founded on creating fun and positive learning experiences in skill acquisition and physical literacy.

 

The Speed and Agility team of experienced and passionate coaches are committed to creating welcoming and inclusive spaces, a mindset of endeavour, goal setting and personal achievement, and a culture that values healthy habits and physical activity to support broader wellbeing and performance outcomes for life.

 

The skills developed throughout the program include running technique, coordination, general strength, and endurance. Registrations are now open via Parent Lounge for the Term 4 Speed and Agility Program.

DetailsThe Speed and Agility program will run for 8 weeks in Term 4 and is available to all students from Prep to Year 6.

All students must sign-on via Parent Lounge to participate in the program.

Training

Training will commence week beginning Monday 10 October, Week 2, Term 4.

Age Groups: Prep - Year 6 (Boys and Girls)

UniformTraining: Students are to wear the full sport uniform for all training sessions and appropriate footwear. Please bring a water bottle.

Primary Swimming - Andrews Cup and Britton Shield (Years 2 to 6)

In preparation for the Andrews Cup and Britton Shield Swimming Competitions in Term 1 2023, all interested students that are entering Years 2 – 6 in 2023 are welcome to join the Primary Swimming pre-season training squad during Term 4, 2022. These swim sessions will be coached by the staff from Clayfield Swimming. 

Training sessions are as follows:

Monday mornings           6:45 am - 7:45 am
Wednesday mornings    6:45 am - 7:45 am (Compulsory)
Thursday afternoons     3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Friday afternoons           3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

All students interested must attend the Wednesday morning training session and are encouraged to attend 2 other sessions throughout the week.  Training will continue until Friday 25 November 2022 and then recommence in Term 1, 2023. Please be advised that these sessions are not Learn to Swim classes and are for students who can manage a one hour training session. 

 

Current Year 1 and Year 2- Students wishing to attend these Primary swimming squad sessions will need to be assessed to ensure they are at an appropriate standard. 

Assessments will take approximately 10 minutes with a member of the Clayfield Swimming coaching team and are available on Friday afternoons at 3:30 pm starting from Friday 7 October. Please note: Year 2 students already attending squad or stroke development at Clayfield Swimming, or were a part of the 2022 Andrews Cup or Britton Shield Swim Team, will not need to be assessed.

Primary Sport - Britton Shield

Britton Shield - Aquathon

Training for aquathon will be on Fridays 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm meeting at the College pool. The competition date is Friday 28 October and the venue will be Clayfield College.

 

Britton Shield - Cricket

Britton Shield Cricket training has commenced and will continue on the following dates for primary school boys:

Monday 10 October         3:30 pm - 4:30 pm   (College Oval) Years 2 to 6
Monday 10 October         4:30 pm - 5:00 pm   (College Oval) Years 4 to 6
Monday 17 October         3:30 pm - 4:30 pm   (College Oval) Years 2 to 6
Monday 17 October        4:30 pm - 5:00 pm   (College Oval) Years 4 to 6

 

Boys are to wear their Clayfield College PE uniform to all training sessions and bring a named water bottle as well as fruit and/or jelly in their lunch box which they can eat during a designated break time in training. Years 2 to 3 parents please ensure that they arrange to pick up their child from Circular Drive at 4:30 pm. Years 4 to 6 parents ensure that they pick up their child from Circular Drive at 5:00 pm and NOT Bayview Terrace.

 

If your son can not attend the above training dates then please let Jon Woods jwoods@clayfield.qld.edu.au know before the end of the term as teams are being formed in the next few weeks. The competition date for Britton Shield Cricket is Friday 21 October. Clayfield College will be hosting the event but it will be off campus.

 

Britton Shield - Swimming

Britton Shield swimming training will start on 5 October and a reminder that students must attend the Wednesday morning training session plus two other sessions throughout the week or one other if you are already attending the Friday aquathlon training session:

Monday mornings               6:45 am - 7:45 am
Wednesday mornings        6:45 am - 7:45 am (Compulsory)
Thursday afternoons          3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Friday afternoons                3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Training will continue through Term 4 and into Term 1, 2023.

Training continues on the following mornings:

Wednesday   6:45 am - 8:00 am   (Compulsory session for all)

It is essential that start times are adhered to, so all students are present for warm-up and stretching. Girls who have music rehearsals that clash with gymnastics training sessions will be dismissed from the Sports Centre at 7:30 am. Training absences must be communicated via email to Mrs Richardson prichardson@clayfield.qld.edu.au

Secondary Sports - QGSSSA

As we embark on Term 4, Clayfield College Sport would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all secondary students who participated in the Hockey, Netball, Volleyball and Athletics programs. You should be proud of your commitment to training, your efforts during fixtures and your weekly pursuit of performance improvements, irrespective of which program you participated in. Winter fixtures were about engaging with peers and enjoying the competition and friendly rivalry.  

 

CC Sport extends our thanks to parents/caregivers, coaches and program coordinators for their planning and preparation and support across the QGSSSA Winter season.

 

QGSSSA Badminton is next on the calendar of competitive fixtures, with students applying themselves diligently to their preparation for the Senior and Junior Badminton Gala Days.

Student Achievements

Gymnastics  - Imogen Davies 

 

Over the holidays, Imogen competed in Queensland State Championships and finished:

 

3rd overall in Level 6 - Under 12

 

Imogen was also chosen to compete in the Brisbane North Regional Team Challenge with her team finishing 2nd overall. The National Clubs competition was held on the Gold Coast. Imogen was rewarded with her Level 6 team becoming National Champions on Beam and Floor, Silver on Bars and Vault and Silver in the all-round competition.  

 

Softball  - Allegra Pollack and Jacqui Buchanan 

Congratulations to Jacqui Buchanan and Allegra Pollack for being part of the winning Brisbane team at the Qld Softball Championships. The girls played 8 games of softball over the final weekend of the holidays on the Sunshine Coast.

 

Some highlights included a home run for Jacqui and some excellent catching in the outfield. Allegra hit the winning run for the team to make the grand final. 

 

Cricket - Abby Harris 

Abby Harris participated in a Queensland School Sport 16-19 years female cricket exchange against New South Wales at the Caloundra Cricket Club on the Sunshine Coast. The State teams were evenly matched throughout the exchange with a tied one-day series 1 - 1 and a narrow defeat 2 - 1 in the T20 series.

Sports Awards Dinner 

16 November 2022 – Date Claimer

The College has confirmed Cloudland, the Rose Room as the venue for this year's Sports Awards Dinner. The cost will be around $75 per person for a two-course sit-down meal with cake for dessert. Further details will be released closer to the date.

Friends of Sports Group

All parents from Prep to Year 12 are welcome to attend Friends of Sport meetings. Please contact Mr. John Robbins should you wish to attend via Zoom and a link will be sent through. 

 

The full schedule for meetings is listed below and these meetings are for anyone interested in supporting the endeavours of the College’s Sports Department. Your assistance will support Britton Shield, Andrews Cup and QGSSSA sports within the College. Meetings are generally held in the College Boardroom.
