A note from the Stage 2 teachers
Wow! We can hardly believe it is already Term 4 and not long to go until the Christmas holidays. This term, Stage 2 students will be conducting scientific experiments, researching and reporting on an animal and engaging in a range of drama activities.
English
This term, students will be continuing their research of a specific animal. They will also be working on developing their writing stamina which includes typing. They will be writing for a range of purposes and audiences during daily writing tasks using a picture prompt.
In reading, students will be learning to use a range of comprehension strategies to determine literal and inferred meaning in informative, imaginative and persuasive texts.
In spelling, we will be learning to spell and read words with the graphemes:
- ‘dd’ as in middle and ‘ld’ as in only should, could and would
- ‘ea’ as in bread, ‘ai’ as in said and /e/ variations
- ‘oi’ as in boil, ‘awy’ as in lawyer and ‘uoy’ as in buoy
- ‘zz’ as in buzz, ‘se’ as in please and ‘x’ as in example
- suffixes -ly, -ment and -ness
- nominilisation ‘tion’ and ‘sion’
Mathematics
We are learning to:
- develop multiplicative strategies to solve multiplication and division problems
- use kilograms and grams to measure and compare masses
- find missing numbers in number sentences involving addition and subtraction
- use a range of mental strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems
Science
Students will be learning that changes of state between solid and liquid can be caused by adding or removing heat. They will be posing questions and conducting and reflecting on investigations.
Reminders
Please ensure student jumpers are clearly labeled and refresh whiteboard marker supplies.
