Performing Arts

Skipping through the school gate this morning, an excited group of Preps called out, “Kirsty! It’s only three more sleeps until Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!”

I smiled and looked down at the script I was holding – covered in pencil marks, cross-outs, coffee and water stains – and noted just how much more battered it was than any previous scripts I’ve owned. But like the trusty and determined script which has made it through rehearsals throughout the year to (hopefully) reach the theatre on Monday, our Warrandyte Primary students have shown amazing resilience, courage and enthusiasm to return from nearly three months of remote learning to prepare for a whole school production. I couldn’t be prouder of them.

“I can’t wait to see you all shining on stage for the very first time!”

I hope everyone has their tickets to Monday’s performance! If not, there are still some available at http://www.eticks.com.au/chittychitty

Details about each grade’s hair and costume requirements can be found on Compass or by contacting me or your classroom teacher.

Please note the following important information:

Dress Rehearsal on Monday December 13

  • Buses transporting the students to the George Wood Performing Arts Centre, Yarra Valley Grammar, will be leaving WPS just after 9am, so students will need to arrive at school on time.
  • Students will need to wear their school uniforms and either bring or wear the required socks and shoes. They will need a healthy packed lunch (no canteen facilities are available), large water bottle and try to have their hair in the style recommended for their character/class item. The teachers will bring along all costumes.
  • All students will return to WPS by 2.30pm.
  • Please encourage the students to rest and eat a healthy evening meal prior to the show.

Evening performance at George Wood Performing Arts Centre, Monday December 13

  • Please remind your child to wear their stage socks and shoes, style their hair in the way suggested, wear their bike shorts and singlets for putting on costumes in group changerooms, and most of all, remind them to enjoy performing!
  • Students need to arrive at the theatre at 6.45pm (Year 6 cast arrive at 6.30pm). They will meet their teachers at a designated drop-off location outside the changerooms (look for the witches hats and your class sign). This will also be the location for pick-up after the performance.
  • Foyer doors will open from 6.50pm for scanning of QR codes and presentation of evidence of double vaccination status. This process will take some time as you queue outside, so please be patient with the theatre staff.
  • Auditorium doors will open from 7pm. WPS staff will scan your tickets and hand you a single-page running sheet. There will not be a program for purchase this year. Please wear your masks in the theatre.
  • The performance will commence at 7.30pm

Thank you to everyone who has offered support this week – it is a reminder of just how special and caring our Warrandyte Community is (and it has been great to see most of the jobs being ticked off the ‘To Do’ list!).

Let’s hope those three sleeps are long, happy and restful.

Stay well - I look forward to seeing you all at the show!
