Principal  Message

Hello everyone,

We are at the final leg of the year and production is now the focus for the next few days.  Monday will be our dress rehearsal and then our Evening show is looking great with close to 400 tickets now sold. Please remember that there will be Covid Marshall's at the door that are employees of Yarra Valley, and they will be checking vaccination status. Entry will be refused for those that are unable to provide proof of vaccination.

Today we had our Meet the Teacher for 2022 and all our students spent time with their 2022  teacher in the classroom.  I spent time moving around each class to offer support if needed and to double check that students had received someone from their buddy hand.  We hold onto these hands and use to ensure that we have honoured the commitment we give our students that they will receive at least one buddy from their hand (or parents are contacted directly).  It was great to have our new and returning teacher Kylie Somerfield (nee Lewis) come in to meet her 1/2 class and she will be working each Friday in Katie's class next year. We also welcome both Greg Edwards and Davide Colombo who are joining our classroom teachers fulltime for 2022.

Warrandyte Primary Performance Report

I would like to share our 2021 Performance Report with the community which offers a snapshot of our progress and performance as a school. Each year this report releases information about 6 domains across the school and provides an overall rating of a school capacity and performance. The domains are :

Achievement (Reading)

Achievement (Numeracy)

School Climate

Student Attitude

Engagement

Participation

You will see from the document below that Warrandyte Primary School's overall performance has been set at an 'Influence' level. This means that WPS is now considered to be a systems leader or influencer amongst other schools as we demonstrate strong performance and systems, particularly in the areas of Reading instruction, Numeracy Instruction and positive School Climate. These three areas are the core work that schools focus on each year and the hard work the teachers have been putting in schoolwide towards our new instructional model, teacher practices and focus on wellbeing in our community has been reflected in these results.  Whilst we will always have work to do and we can always be reflecting on our schools practices and process', it is great for you as a community to feel confident that WPS is now considered to be a school other schools can look to as an example of good practice in both their teaching and approach to creating a positive school climate.

We have been analysing the data around Student Attitude which is taken from the Attitudes to Schools Survey done by our Grade 4-6 students in April of this year.  With increased student voice and agency in the school now being a focus across our everyday practices we are working to shift this data. If you are interested in reading through whole the report, it is attached for your reference. We aim to share and be as transparent as possible with our results as we believe collective efficacy is a part of a high functioning school. We work together towards the best possible outcomes for our children.

I hope you have a great weekend and I will see you all at the production on Monday evening.  I am looking forward to having the whole community together, which will be the first and only time we have been able to come together in 2021.  Thank you to Kirsty for persevering with the production despite the numerous cancellations and threat of shutting down with positive cases.  Her determination to give our students a shot at performing is greatly appreciated and I feel quite confident in saying despite the time challenges this year, it will be an outstanding and professional show to enjoy.

Take care

Nieta
