La Sainte Chapelle in Paris

The Sainte-Chapelle is located in Paris and was built in the 13th century to house King Saint-Louis' collection of religious relics. It is visited for the beauty of its 618 m2 of stained glass windows which are among the most sumptuous in the world. These windows depict 1,130 biblical figures and illustrate biblical scenes from both testaments.

Originally, 22 relics were acquired by Saint-Louis. There are only three left: a fragment of the cross, a nail, and the crown of thorns. They are now part of the Notre-Dame de Paris treasure. The crown of thorns was bought 135,000 livres tournois, about half of the annual income of the royal domain. The construction of the Sainte-Chapelle cost about 40,000 livres tournois, three times less than the crown of thorns !

Bonjour à tous,

I hope you're well and enjoying le ciel bleu (the blue sky) this week.

While Years 4/5 and 5/6 are working on their portfolio tasks, all other students are doing revisions at the moment.

  • The Preps were introduced to a new French board game, le jeu de l'oie (the game of goose), to revise their numbers.

  • In Years 1 and 2, students are now finishing their portfolio tasks: they drew little monsters, labelled their clothes and next week they will write a paragraph in French to describe what their monsters are wearing. They will use the verb 'porter' (to wear) and will learn how to say 'he' (il) and 'she' (elle):

  • Years 3 and 3/4 have started watching the French animation movie, Asterix and the mansion of the Gods. Before watching, we talked about the Roman Empire and the ancient name of France, La Gaule.

Today's French song is 'Si on disait' (if we said) by M Pokora:

Bonne semaine à tous! Have a nice week everyone!

A bientôt,

Delphine
