Inquiry and Maths

SLC is halfway through to the end of the year and for most, it means they are leaving St Bridget's for High School. In our social-emotional program Bounce Back, we have been focusing on being positive people. We decided it would be a good idea to share positivity with each other about our beautiful school. The students brainstormed what the positive things about St Bridget’s were, there was a huge list of things and some couldn’t even put it all on one page. We ask you to have a go at brainstorming all the positive things about St Bridget’s and see if you can add anything we don’t already have. Some favourites of course were Angelique, our Wellbeing garden and the school community.

The focus in many of our Maths lessons lately have been problem solving strategies and we are working on creating a bank of these strategies to help us problem solve in Maths. Some may include working backwards, trial and error/guess and check, making a model and breaking up the problem into smaller parts. After using these strategies and solving the problem our next job is to explain how we solved the problem because in Maths, the answer isn’t always the most important part. We need to know how we worked something out to find the most efficient strategy to solve a problem or the one that worked best for us. There are many more strategies but these are some of the most popular ones we use in class.

Now the whole school is finally back onsite and the magic is back, SLC created informative texts written specifically for the younger students. These informative texts will be located in the library and can be read in library time. There are texts about animals, sports games and some famous people. The SLC students put a lot of effort into presenting them as a book over online learning last term.

Kind Regards
