Principal's News

Dear Parents and Friends,

FOUNDATION 2022 NEWS

Well, it was with much excitement that we welcomed our Foundation 2022 students for there last transition session today. Today, the children met their teachers and their classmates for next year.

I am very excited to announce that Cassie Dirckze and Ellen Behrendt will teach our 2022 Foundation students - they are certainly very excited (and maybe a little nervous), but I know they will do an amazing job - they are wonderful teachers!

COLOUR RUN

Finally, our Colour Run day is here ……..I think we should call it Rainbow Friday! We are starting the day with some sporting activities, then a sausage sizzle then over the road we go to George Woods to become a Rainbow school!

The 5 children who raised the most money and therefore get to “colour” Mrs Sullivan and her band of merry helpers are:

Flynn O - FY

Isaac O - 1/2B

Jordyn B - 1/2B

Matthew T - 1/2B

Jayden V - 5/6A

Children are to come to school in casual sport clothes. Old clothes are good as they will get coloured.  Please remember if you want to get coloured wear a WHITE T-SHIRT.  If you DO NOT want to be coloured you must wear a BLACK t-shirt. If your child  would like to wear sunglasses as well that is fine.

Year 4 Camp

We got our Year 4’s of to camp yesterday with plenty of smiles and some tears (parents included). From the photo's and videos sent back to us it certainly looks like they are having a wonderful time. We have to remember that our children have  had 2 years where they have not been able to experience sleep overs very much - even with family members. This has added to the nerves of both the parents and the children and I am very proud of them all for going on camp.

Year 5/6 Camp

Our 5/6 camp was a wonderful experience for our children - we had many excited but tired children when they arrived home on Friday. The children and teachers were so excited that the camp got to go ahead after many changes of date!

TRANSITION FOR OUR YEAR 1-5’s

We had our first transition for next year on Monday - again the children were a little nervous and excited! We will have our next transition on Monday and again it may not be the teacher or the children that they will have in their class for 2022. These transition sessions are about looking at how our children work and interact together. Friday 10th December is our final transition session where the children will meet their teacher and the children in their class for 2022.

The impact of COVID on end of year events……..

As I have mentioned many times before the guidelines for schools, can be different to what is occurring in the community. Our latest guidelines came out on Sunday and for our end of year events this is what we can and cant do.

  1. Colour run - As this is being run not on school grounds we can have parents attend - we do ask that you meet us at George Woods between 1.45pm and 2pm. We are hoping to start our colour run at 2pm and we be finished by 2.45pm approximately. Children will then walk back to school and you may if you want to take them home then or they can be picked up at  the normal time of 3.15pm
  2. Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated on Thursday 9th December. This is classified as a Parish event so we can have 8 people per family. The 8 is made up of the child, their sponsor and 6 other people. In order to come into the church you will need to QR code in and show your vaccination certificate. Children (apart from the candidate) 12 and 2 months must be fully vaccinated to attend. COVID marshals (our school teachers) will be out the front of the church to check you in. Please understand these are not our guidelines but the Victorian Government guidelines.
  3. End of Year Mass, Friday 10th December is also classified as a Parish event and the same rules apply as for Confirmation.
  4. Graduation - Tuesday 14th December. As this is classified as a school event in a public place the same rules apply as per Confirmation.
  5. End of Year Assembly. Once again this year our End of Year Assembly will be recorded as we still have a density quota of 1 person per 4 square metres in our hall. The assembly will be available to watch Friday 10th December after 3.30pm

REPORTS

School reports can be accessed online from 4pm next Friday - 10th December.  A detailed instruction sheet on how to access your child's report will be emailed and sent out by SkoolBag next week. Please also remember it is important you download and save or print out your child’s report, as you will need some reports when moving into secondary school.

ST VINCENT FOOD DRIVE

Just a reminder that our annual Christmas Food Drive for St Vincent's is on again. We have already seen some food delivered, but if you have not donated as yet can you do so tomorrow (Friday) as the food is being collected on Monday. Thank you as always for your wonderful generosity at this time.

Some suggested donations are:

Foundation - Toiletries - shampoo, toilet paper, toothpaste, tooth brushes, nappies, deodorant

Year 1/2 - Chocolates and Lollies for Christmas

Year 3/4 - Tinned Fruit, Sweet and Savoury Biscuits

Year 5/6 - Tea Bags, Coffee, Milo, sugar

Or anything that you could use on a Christmas Table - Christmas pudding, mince pies, serviettes, bon bons.

Please check the 'use by' date on all items donated.

I cannot believe how quickly this term has come and gone - I have one more newsletter to write and to think our year is nearly finished is amazing!

Take care and stay safe.

Yours in partnership
