Language & Culture Program

Kii, Deadly TPS community, biladu-njan wat/how are you all? And in the words of my Yawuru language...Ngaji gurrjin/Hello everyone! I hope you are all well and safe!

It has been burndap-dhak/so good to be back at school, teaching and learning with thebubup/children! They have all settled in burndap-dhak/so well and we are all barrbunin-dhak/very happy to be wurrdi-yalyal/together again!

This term, we have continued to explore First Nation people’s concept of ‘Country’ through investigations of the topic of ‘Caring for Water and Country’; and another Wurundjeri season - Myrnong Kulin-Djumbuna – Yam Daisy Harvest & Men’s Business Season, which takes place throughout November and much of December; as well as related Dreaming and contemporary stories.

Woiwurrung learning has focused on topic related vocabulary, general classroom use of the language, and for Grades 3-6, some basic grammar involving simple sentence construction using pronoun suffixes on noun and verb roots.

This term, we have also focused on learning about and practising the sounds in the Woiwurrung language, and the English letter system used to record sounds and words. Students enjoy playing games that involve applying their knowledge and skills learned in this area.

Twaganin!
