Year 1/2–Celebrating Learning

Mainstream

At school the 1/2 mainstream classes have been continuing their learning about multiplicative thinking and building on their understanding. They have been making connections to skip counting, repeated addition and finding multiplication in the world. As part of this unit, they built towers together, and wrote it’s matching fact.

The Year 1/2s have enjoyed returning to gardening with Aviva just in time to learn about pollinators and what all sorts of insects do in the garden. They observed native bees, ladybugs, and other insects pollinating flowers.

1S have been enjoying learning about Spring and particularly bees! Students learnt that there are 1700 native bees in Victoria. They enjoyed nature walks, drawing and painting spring pictures and drawing native insects with Aviva.

Over the last few weeks 2S have been celebrating the changes in our local surroundings; including the weather, earth and sky. This has coincided with National Pollinator Week, giving us the chance to explore and observe different kinds of pollinators. We understand their importance and the role they play in maintaining a healthy balance in nature. With a Main Lesson focus on reading and writing, we have been expanding our vocabulary, and learning about the different parts of speech.

Here are some of the beeswax bees we made, and some of the Main Lesson work we’ve been doing.
