School Council

Dear Parents,

Last week, school council met for the last time this year. It was a wonderful culmination of a quite busy and successful year. Before informing you all of our latest work, I did want to take the opportunity to thank each and every councillor for their dedication, hard work and strong debate regarding school operations.

For me it is my second last meeting as President.  In February I will hand over the reins to someone else as my child departs for secondary school. It has been an absolute treat and privilege being the School Council President of Mackellar Primary School.  Our school is a great school, made all the better through the involvement and contributions of our community.

Now on to reports. Our Education sub-committee continued their strong work in updating or implementing polices required for government schools. With our school undertaking a review in 2022, these policies are crucial.  This committee's work has been outstanding this year and they have made a huge contribution to our success. These updated policies will soon make their way onto the school's website.

Our Buildings and Grounds sub-committee continues with its strong work right through the holiday period. Currently there are tradespeople on the roof replacing skylights, fixing structural problems and mending leaks which is well over due.  In addition, we have the external school painting planed for the holiday period, the male staff toilets are almost complete, and excitingly we have contracted Mambourin Services for the 2022 school year.

Mambourin offers a range of opportunities for people living with disabilities to make a meaningful contribution to our school through employment in gardening services.  The Mambourin team will be an addition to our maintenance team to assist in keeping the school looking so great.  You will see them every few weeks throughout 2022.

Finally, our Finance and Governance sub-committee ratified our Indicative 2022 Budget, endorsed the strong financial position of the school and approved the seeking of quotes to install a new and more secure perimeter fence in 2022.

All in all, a very busy, successful and productive final meeting to what has been an equally successful year.

On behalf of me and all councillors, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful and safe New Year, and we thank you all for your support and understanding during a very challenging year.

Regards,

Gurpreet Thiara

School Council President
