Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

As we move towards the end of the year, more and more data comes through to inform us of how we went this year, especially considering all of the challenges we as a school and a community went through.

This year, the grade 4-6 students, staff and a randomly selected and computer generated group of parents completed a survey. The staff and parent surveys are called 'Opinion Surveys' and the student survey is called the 'Attitudes to School Survey'. The latest batch of data was recently released, shared with staff and school council.  In a nut-shell, our data this year is extremely positive and something we all should be collectively very proud of.

In particular, 84% of our grades 4-6 students positively endorsed their 'Sense of Connectedness'. This measure is higher than the state average of 80%, higher than our like schools (schools similar in demographic to us) at 81%, and equal to our school Network of Keilor and St. Albans schools.

This is the highest student result in five years, and is testament to the hard work and dedication of our teachers in ensuring students are connected not only to their classwork, but to their peers, and their school community as a whole.

When our parents completed their survey earlier this year, they too provided us with valuable information to work with into 2022 and beyond.

They told us 90% of parents have a Positive 'General Satisfaction' 10% Neutral and 0% Negative which is a great result. In addition, 91% of parents indicated their children have a strong connection to their school, 9% Neutral and 0% Negative.  Another fantastic result.

Furthermore, 94% of parents indicate that as a school we successfully build 'Student Confidence and Resiliency' skills, 5% Neutral and 1% Negative, and 91% of parents believe we have a 'High Expectation of Success', 4% Neutral and 5% Negative.

Both our students and parents informed us that whilst we 'Manage Bullying' well ( 91% Positive for parents) and many students do not experience bullying (81% for students), we do need to do more work on preventing inappropriate behaviour in the first instance, whilst simultaneously continuing to successfully manage instances when they arise.

Our Staff Opinion Survey results are also very positive.  In 2020, our school did not match any 'Like School', 'Network, or 'State' measures in any areas. This year, we have surpassed our 'Like Schools' group in all areas, the State measures in two out of four, and Network measures in one category whilst only a few percentage points behind in the others.  This is an outstanding result for our staff and very well deserved.  They have done amazing work this year which is reflected in very positive results.

Across the board, these results indicate the way in which we are supporting, teaching and nurturing our students, your children, is working.  It is being well received by students and parents and that we are successfully working towards our school vision of 'Empowering Global Citizens'.

Regards,
