Health and PE at

Hackham East Primary School

This Term has been an extremely busy one within the Health and PE realm.

Club Connect

In term 2 Mrs Martin secured a grant, called Club Connect, to run an after school sport for the students of Hackham East Primary School. This term we offered students from year 3-7 (and some younger siblings) the possibility to participate in a FREE after school Orienteering program on Thursday afternoons from 3:15 to 4:15pm. The program started in week 3 and will be continuing until the end of term. The Program has been run on our school oval and over forty students have been participating.

The program has been extremely successful. Mrs Martin has applied for another grant for next year to run a similar program.

School Sport Stacking Clinics

This term we have had the absolute pleasure of Jaydyn Coggins (5 x World Champion Sports Stacker), Official Sport Stacking judges Rachel and Adam running School Sport Stacking Clinics for the students of Hackham East Primary School. The improvement in the student’s fine motor skills has been outstanding and prevalent in their ever-increasing, or should I say decreasing, best times. Seeing Jaydyn complete the full cycle in under six seconds is truly astonishing.

I know Rachel, Adam and Jaydyn are keen to continue with this club next year so that is definitely something to keep an eye out for.

On Tuesday 16/11 Hackham East Primary School students from Years 1-7 were incredibly proud to participate in an attempt at setting a new Guinness World Record. 550,224 people from around the world registered to Cup Stack on the same day for a half hour. This was super exciting for the students and the day ran smoothly. Unfortunately, the previous Guinness World record for Cup Stackers stacking on the same day was 638,503 so we didn’t beat it. However, I know that they will be attempting the same thing next year so we plan on spreading the word to other local schools to participate and help get us over the line next time.

We are extremely excited to let everyone know that the Australian National Sport Stacking Championships will be held in the Penney Space on Sunday  28/11.

All previously held Australian records have now been shelved as the sport has introduced new timers so all Australian records are up for grabs. Many of the students here at Hackham East Primary School are incredibly interested in registering into the day’s events,. YOUR child could hold an Australian record. So, open the flyer below and register before it's too late.

*Parents there is no restrictions on age so get practicing and you too could be an Australian Champion.

Basketball Competition at Wirreanda Secondary School

On Tuesday 16/11 nine of our Yr 6/7 students participated in an inaugural Basketball competition run at Wirreanda Secondary School. I was super proud of how our students managed themselves both on and off of the court. They were supportive of other students from other schools and showed our school values 100% of the time. We ended up coming 6th out of eight schools but the level of improvement throughout the day was outstanding. If we had another day to play, I believe that we could have come out on top.

Jump Rope for Health

On Tuesday 23/11 the students are participating in a Jump Rope for Health morning. We have been working very hard on our skipping skills during our Health & PE lessons so that we can improve our awareness of healthy activities and complete so pretty awesome tricks whilst doing so. This is not a fund raising event as it has been in the past but rather an awareness raising event.
