Drawing Competitions

HEPS students have participated in different Art competitions promoted by our Federal and State Members of Parliament this Semester. In Term 3, members of the lunchtime Drawing Clubs entered drawings into Nat Cook’s “What Makes Me Happy in COVID Times” competition. Two of our students, Ebony Benson from Mrs Jolley/Mrs Martin’s class and Hayley Shugg from Mrs Dealtry’s class won prizes in this competition. They were presented with their prizes by Nat Cook herself at our last assembly. Congratulations, girls!

Twenty three students from across the school entered their designs into Katrine Hildyard’s Christmas Card competition. We are waiting to hear if any of these students have been successful in winning an award.

Singing for Fun Choir

At lunchtimes on Thursdays, between 20-30 students meet in the Arts Room and learn to sing songs with Mrs Thiele and Miss Hay. We are learning how to warm up our voices, how to stand/sit when we are in a choir, how to sing in a round and many other choral skills. The choir made their debut at assembly in Week 4, singing the Pink song, “Cover Me in Sunshine”. We look forward to performing more songs in the near future.

Hey You!

Castle Unit classes have been involved in activities and challenges using online music resources through Charanga Australia. Students are currently learning a Vocal Rap entitled, “Hey You!” They are learning how to keep the pulse (musical heartbeat) with their bodies as well as playing the C and D notes on the xylophones and glockenspiels.

Movie Making Using Toontastic

Stillwell Unit students have been focussed on producing their own narrated and animated movies using the app “Toontastic”. Using characters and background scenes on the app (or making their own), students have developed a storyline that has 3-5 parts with a problem, a climax and a solution. They are experimenting with creating different voices for their characters and concentrating on their diction and expression whilst narrating.

Tarnanthi Exhibition At The Art Gallery

The Year 4/5 class were privileged to attend the Tarnanthi exhibition at the Art Gallery in Adelaide on October 25th. The first part of the morning was spent touring the exhibition with a guide, looking at an amazing range of modern artworks created by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists from all around Australia. Students then spent a session in the workshop studio designing their own boab sculpture, inspired by Walmajarri artist from Western Australia, John Prince Siddon.

The Year 5/6 and 6/7 classes are making Stop Motion animations using natural and recycled objects based on the ideas of the French series, Soupe l’Opera. They have storyboarded their ideas and are now filming their scenes.
