SOFTBALL SUCCESS

Interschool Softball

On Thursday 25 February the year 8 girls participated in the Interschool Softball round robin against Canterbury Girls Secondary Collage and Camberwell High School A and B teams. To start the day off all the girls and our coach Mrs Gayfer walked down to Myrtle Park in Balwyn where the round robin tournament was to be played. The first game got us off to a good start - we won against Canterbury girls 24-1, then to make the day even better we won our second game against the Camberwell B team 23-1! That meant that our third and final game was against our biggest competition, the Camberwell A team. Going into this match the whole team was really excited, but a little nervous to play also.

In the first innings we started off batting, the scores were tight at 2-6 our way. In the second innings, Camberwell started coming back. At the conclusion of the second innings they were up by three and we had to make a comeback to win! With only 15 minutes left in the game we went in to the third innings to bat first and we made five runs! The pressure was now on us to get Camberwell out quickly for the innings to count. Our whole team worked extremely well together under pressure as we got three Camberwell batters out in a row, winning the game for Kew girls’ softball team!

It was with the help of our coach and the cheering from our teammates and supporters that encouraged us to keep going to win the game. So much excitement and joy we felt after the game concluded – we were ecstatic! Now the team head off to represent Kew High at the Zone competition in November. It’s great to have the success, but overall we loved the excitement and we all had a lot of fun!
