Health and Physical Education

Term 1 has been full of engaging and relevant learning activities in all Health and Physical Education (PE) classrooms.

Year 7s have been exploring team work skills by participating in a number of minor games in PE and also understanding more about themselves during Health classes by identifying their character strengths. They have also been taking part in the Peer Support program, which is run by Year 10 leaders designed to help the smooth transition between Primary school and Secondary school.

Year 8 students have been exploring decision making skills in the Strike/Fielding unit, focussing on softball, cricket and rounders. In Health, the students have looked at what their own values are and how they demonstrate these in everyday life.

Strike/Fielding has also been the focus for Year 9 students, who have travelled to Freeway Golf course for two golf lessons, analysed their swing and compared it to a professional golfer. In Health, the focus has been on risk taking behaviour, in particular Binge Drinking, where students participated in a Standard Drinks activity.

Year 10 elective based subjects have been busy teaching a strategy or tactic in their chosen sport in Sport Science, taking a coaching session during Advanced Volleyball or introducing the class to a different cultural game in PE.

In our VCE classes, the PE students have been learning about bones and muscles and did a lamb shank dissection.
