Focus on Learning

Stage 1 - Mrs Amanda Bartholomew

We have had an exciting start in Year 1/2 this term with the addition of 4 new faces to our classroom. We welcome Sophie (Year 1), Molly (Year 1), Billie (Year 2) and Daniella (Year 2) to the St Joseph's family.

Mathematics:

In Mathemathics this term we have been focusing on Mass. We learnt to compare objects using the language of heavier, lighter and equal by hefting. We also became more confident in using equal arm balances to compare the mass of 2 objects. Year 1/2 found estimation a little tricky at first when learning to create equal masses but they gained confidence with more practice!

English:

We have been learning to write engaging sentences that make sense. We have used "Sentence Must Haves" as a checklist to guide our sentence writing so that our sentences are accurate.  Here are some examples...

One sunny day I was driving along the country side and BOOM! A stinky cow moooooooed loudly because he was stuck on the fence. Sienna T.

Out of the blue a cool sheep was skateboarding and crashed into a bush. Lily Brown.

One night there was a cheeky mouse who was trying to get the cheese. Lyla Cook.

All of a sudden the angry dinosaurs were crashing down the strong fence. Zack Rawsthorne.

One day, two happy friends were laughing because an old grandpa was crossing the road. Hendrix O'Loughlin.

Awesome sentences Year 1/2!
