CLASSROOM  HAPPENINGS

Last Friday 29th November, all the Year 6 students celebrated a special end-of-year mass with Fr Michael in the church. These students have completed their preparation for Confirmation but have been unable to receive the Sacrament this year. They are warmly invited to return next year to do this during the Easter Season.

Fr Michael spoke about the challenging final years of primary school for these students and congratulated them for all their efforts. He mentioned how timely it was that on this day, as we celebrate our final mass as OLHC students, so too do we end the official church year, with the commencement of the new liturgical year beginning on the last weekend of November.  As part of the mass, students listened to the beautiful words of the Beatitudes, the Sermon on the Mount, from the Gospel of Luke. We all had the chance to reflect on these statements and think about how we can live these in our own lives. We concluded with all students lighting a candle and placing it in the display bowl next to the parish Easter candle as a symbol of our Christian calling to shine in the world like the light of Christ.

ADVENT IN 1/2K

This week we have been learning about the Advent season and celebrated our first Advent liturgy.   We learnt about the Advent candles that we light each week in the lead up to Christmas.

In 1/2K, we made candles using a stained glass window effect using tissue paper. We learnt a new skill for many of us when cutting the inside of a shape without cutting through the paper.
