Primary

From the Primary Office

We are excited to announce that for the first time in the School’s history, a third Kinder class will be offered in 2022.

With growing demand for places and many new families expressing interest in joining the MAG community over the past year, the School will offer an additional Kinder class in 2022.

The Echuca-Moama region is thriving due to the tree-change appeal of country living, a laid-back lifestyle, riverside vistas and glorious weather. Moama has experienced rapid development and growth in recent times. We are thrilled to be able to grow with the community and offer quality education in a supportive environment.

Families seeking the best educational outcomes for their children are encouraged to embrace this outstanding opportunity to join the MAG community.

If you or someone you know has a child entering Kinder/Prep in 2022 and would like to know more about Moama Anglican Grammar, please contact the Registrar at registrar@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au or 03 5480 5900.

Next week we welcome back Dr Chelsea Hyde from the University of Melbourne who will come to Moama Anglican Grammar with a team of provisional psychologists to conduct a variety of educational assessments. Parents of selected students have been informed. If you have any questions about this service, feel free to contact Mel Scott, Head of Teaching and Learning Primary mscott@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au

Presentation Assemblies

To continue to limit risks and exposure to COVID-19, the School has made the decision to have the students from Kinder to Year 4 attend a formal assembly in their Stage on Friday 3 December. Unfortunately, parents are unable to attend these assemblies and therefore, the communication team will film these and the footage will be shared with families.

Students in Years 5 and 6 will attend the planned Presentation Assembly on Monday 6 December. This assembly will be livestreamed for parents to view. These formal assemblies, are a great opportunity to celebrate students’ achievements. Each classroom teacher will select the 4 recipients for the student awards listed below.

Name of AwardCriteriaHow the Award winner is determined

Excellentia

Awarded to one student from each K-6 class:

‘is awarded to the student who has achieved the highest overall results across the curriculum in their class for the year'.

This award is objectively determined by the classroom teacher based on consistent and independent achievement throughout the year and generally not dependent on effort or attitude. Results from class-based assessment tasks and standardised tests, form the basis of the decision.
Endeavour

Awarded to two students from each K-6 class:

‘is awarded to a student who has achieved above and beyond their potential across the curriculum by committing their best effort throughout the year'.

This award is objectively determined by the classroom teacher based on consistent achievement and application throughout the year. The recipient will be a student that regularly goes the extra mile to provide evidence of attention to detail, in-depth investigation and thinking, reliability and presentation. Learner attributes not readily tested such as work ethic as well as aspects of the School’s Core Values also provide guidance when determining the recipient.
Most Improved

Awarded to one student from each K-6 class:

‘is awarded to the student who has demonstrated the greatest progress and application throughout the year'.

This award is objectively determined by the classroom teacher based on progress and application throughout the year. A comparison of results on class-based assessment tasks from the beginning of the year and standardised tests, should demonstrate a significant “leap” and form the basis of the decision, overlayed with teacher judgement to reflect learning attributes not readily tested such as work ethic as well as aspects of the School’s Core Values.

Day Camps

We would like to wish all students in Year 3, Year 4 and Year 6 a great time at their scheduled Day Camp at Murray Life Adventures on:

Year 3 - Tuesday 23 November

Year 4 - Monday 22 November

Year 6 - Friday 19 November

We acknowledge that for some students, change to their normal routines may cause some anxiety. The resource below provides some great tips and suggestions on how to support your child feeling more confident about going on camp.

Year 5 Leadership Applications

Currently, the 2022 Year 6 leadership applications are open to our Year 5 cohort. These positions offer the experience for individuals to lead many successful activities, gain experience in leading initiatives and driving change within our Primary School.

As part of this process, students are submitting nominations for the following positions:

  • School Leaders x 4
  • House Captains x 8 (2 per house)
  • Music Captains x 2
  • Primary Co-Curricular Captains x 2

To ensure our extensive Co-Curricular program continues to develop, an additional two leadership opportunities have been added to next year’s positions. The two successful applicants for this position will work closely with the Year 12 Co-Curricular Captains and the Co-Curriculum coordinator to provide great opportunities for students to get involved in various activities.

Nominated students will prepare a speech which they will deliver to peers on Wednesday 24 November. The successful candidates will be announced to the school community at the Year 5/6 Presentation Assembly. We are incredibly pleased with the number of nominations received thus far and attribute this to the work the Year 5 classroom teachers have been doing with our students around being upstanders and positive role models for our younger students.

Kinder 2022 Transition Program

The Kinder 2022 transition process is well and truly underway. Contact with Kindergartens and Preschools has been made and physical visits have been booked. Please be aware that not all Preschools allow visitors onsite and alternative arrangements with those Preschool Centres have been made. In Victoria, all Kindergarten teachers will complete the child’s Transition Learning and Development Statement which summarises the child’s abilities as they start school and identifies their individual approaches to learning. These statements will be shared with our school.

On Tuesday 23 November we welcome our new Kindergarten 2022 cohort to their first transition morning. To support our new students and their families with the transition to our school community, we are offering a parent information session, parent curriculum workshop and 3 transition days for the students. We look forward to welcoming the students onsite and into our beautiful Kindergarten classrooms.

Year 2 Sleepover

Preparation for the Year 2 sleepover has continued and with the changed restrictions, we are pleased to announce that this camp can go ahead. Students in Year 2 are invited to have a sleepover at school in the Multipurpose Hall on Friday 26 November. More information about the event and arrangements will be shared with the Year 2 families in the near future.
