John XXIII Rowing Club

The moment is finally upon us. We made it to this year’s Head of the River.

On Saturday 25 June, John XXIII College Rowing Club will embark on a memorable day of hosting the one in six year event. Whilst much work has been playing out behind the scenes, our coaches and rowers have continued to quietly and consistently get the ‘job done’. Training attendance has been excellent in the lead up to this event, so well done to all rowers – male and female.

Head of the River Regatta 25 June, 2022

All rowers and helpers will have access to the bus for transport. This bus will leave at 6:15am sharp. Please do not be late and remember to wear your mask.

The bus will pick up from Champion Lakes at 1:30pm and return all rowers to Canning Bridge for boat unloading. All rowers are expected here to assist with the boats.

Please note that as the Host school of this Regatta, we will be facilitating the Presentations at the end of the Regatta. Our very own Captain and Vice Captain will be centre stage, along with the wonderful Holly Martin (National Anthem). Could I ask ALL rowers to remain at the rRegatta for this presentation to show our support and appreciation. Extra loud applause must come from us!

We can also show our appreciation of all the hard work that has been happening behind the scenes by purchasing any of the delicious treats on offer and when you see any of our helpers, make sure to say thank you!

Big THANKS

Merchandise 'Pick and Pack Crew'.

On Wednesday 22 June we experienced boxes and boxes of merchandise land here at John XXIII College. With the wonderful assistance of Anthea Rakich, Tania Hudson, Lisa Martella, Ric Del Pizzo, Melissa Aylmore, Yolande Wall, Mathieson Sicard and Jordan Lummis, we managed to individually pack and dispatch all student orders to six different schools. Great job team.

Cakes

A very big thank you to all parents who have baked cakes and slices to be sold at this weekends Regatta. We had a wonderful afternoon with our Senior female rowers baking at school. Much thanks to Mrs Jessica Bouwman, Ms Mindy Toleman and Ms Mei Le for your help in this session.

We also must extend a big thank you to Mrs Lucy Brett for leading this baking mission and also thanks to Olivia Burridge, Marisa Davey,  and Renata Ogilive many hands definitely make for lighter work.

Logistics

Friday 24 June saw the mass collection and transport of all equipment required for hosting the big day. I extend a large thank you to Doug Watson for all of his assistance in gathering equipment and getting this ready for collection. Amanda Derbyshire, Liza Armstrong, James Stokes, Jess Harker, Karen Watt, Lucy Brett, Yolande Wall and Gus Samson all deserve a large round of applause for their efforts in the lead up of this event. Thank you.

Male helpers/volunteers

One of the wonderful parts of our rowing program is the that we service both males and females. It is with a big heart that I thank all the male rowers who have volunteered their time to help. Thank you to Markus Janisch, Darcy Floyd, Seb Cena, Bayley Allen, Sebastian Grant Smith, Austin Vincent, Joe Sweet, Jack Brett, Max Watt, Roklan Braddock, Timothy Tierney.

Lastly, much of what will eventuate this weekend can be put down to the immense work completed by Lisa Martella. The marketing, design, and running around that Lisa has completed over the last few months has been invaluable. Thank you Lisa.
