St Louis House Day

This week we celebrate and remember St Aloysius Gonzaga, a young man of great faith, compassion and courage who gave up a privileged life to live a life caring for those around him. Gonzaga cared for victims, begged alms for the sick, and physically carried those he found on the streets to a hospital where he washed and fed them. We continue to look to St Aloysius Gonzaga for inspiration, ultimately working towards fulfilling our House motto ‘Altiora Peto’ or simply, to strive for higher things.

During the House Assembly we also celebrated what it meant to be a member of St Louis House, a spirited, caring, and generous group of people. An important part of our day was the pizza lunch, sharing a meal contributes to stronger relationships and strengthens the bond of a Homeroom and of a House.

A huge thank you to all St Louis House staff, particularly the Homeroom teachers who play a special role in the lives of our students.

The Science and Engineering Challenge

Congratulations to the Year 10 Engineering class who achieved second place in the Science and Engineering challenge on Monday 20 June. The challenge involved completing tasks in groups to add points towards the total class score. It was great to see the student's high energy and competitiveness towards their challenges.

A big thank you from CARAD

Refugee Week is a unique opportunity for us all to experience and celebrate the rich diversity of refugee communities. Through Refugee Week, we aim to provide an important opportunity for asylum seekers and refugees to be seen, listened to and valued.

The College hosted a number of activities to celebrate the week. We welcomed  Fare Go to the College, the Fare Go Food Truck is a social enterprise staffed by refugees and asylum seekers, who served up some delicious cultural foods to students and staff.

We also held a food drive for Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees (CARAD).  It was great to see see so much support from students and staff. Below is a lovely response we received from the team at CARAD

I wanted to let you know how grateful we are for the generosity of the staff and students of John XXIII College.  I came this morning with two volunteers, and we were amazed at the number of bags donated.

We appreciate your support for CARAD and the efforts of your staff in helping to organise this appeal and make it happen.  Our clients are so appreciative of all the food and hygiene items they receive each week.

Please forward our thanks and appreciation to all those who donated and also those who assisted in sorting, packing and carrying the bags.

JTC students at the 'Get Into Resources' expo

The Get Into Resources annual event provides students with a wide range of engaging activities to inspire and create interest for the next generation in the resources industry.

Thirty of our John XXIII students from Years 11 and 12 experienced either ATAR or VET hands on sessions, which were presented and facilitated by resource industry professionals such as Engineers and Geologists.

The event was sponsored and attended by key resource industry companies including BHP, Rio Tinto, Sandfire, Mineral Resources and Gold Industry Group.

Face masks

A reminder that all Secondary students travelling on school buses, including the Horizons West charter buses are required to wear a face mask. This is mandated by the state government. In consideration of all members of our school community, it is important that students ensure they wear a face mask on the bus.

ACC Hockey

The 2022 ACC Hockey Challenge did not disappoint. Our boys went into the day hoping to go one better than their semi final loss last year. They rose to the challenge to secure their place in the grand final at the end of the day against Bunbury Grammar. The game was a draw and went into extra time. Unfortunately, our team went down in the last two minutes finishing second. It was a fantastic effort and we look forward to seeing what they can do next year. Thank you to our hockey extraordinaire Mr Josh Bowen for all his time, effort and passion in coaching the boys this year.

SSWA Junior Hockey

Well done to our two Junior Years 7-9 Hockey teams who competed in the Ross Meadows Hockey Shield. It was a great day and the future of hockey is looking very promising for John XXIII College. Thank you to Mr Adrian Sims for his assistance in supervising and coaching these teams.
