From the Principal

Progress being made

When I travelled to Sydney a month ago, an airline employee greeted me with an enthusiastic ‘Welcome back Mr Henderson!’ It was good to meet interstate Principal colleagues face-to-face after my first flight in two years. Despite catching COVID within a few hours, the opportunity to interact with others was much appreciated.

Similarly, we enjoyed gatherings of students, staff and parents over the past few weeks as restrictions have been lifted. The last three Primary school assemblies have been superb, and we have hosted a large Primary sport carnival. This week our Secondary school has conducted the Pilgrimage Mass, House Public Speaking, Year 9 Musical and the IGGSA Rowing Head of the River will be conducted on Saturday. Our Year 11 pilgrims head to the Northern Territory on the weekend. There is plenty happening.

The College Pilgrimage Program is our most significant ‘Roncalli Service’ event. We look forward to hearing from participants on their return. It is the College’s turn to host the Head of the River this year and we are very appreciative of the efforts of our rowers, parents and staff in preparing for this significant event. Best wishes to our pilgrims and our rowers.

Steady progress with our Building Program is also welcomed. Despite COVID related delays, we are very happy with the new initiatives and our students are providing excellent feedback on the refurbished Ignatius Centre. Our A Block renovation will be the next stage completed and our new staff building is taking shape. It is a staged build and further enhancements will be made to the existing staff room and administration block.

Congratulations to all students, staff and families on successfully navigating the current challenges as we look forward with renewed hope and enthusiasm.

Create a place for a future student

Due to the generosity of the John XXIII College community, the John XXIII College Foundation was able to recently open applications for the 2023 John XXIII College Bursary.

The Bursary program is a significant way we can pursue distributive justice in our community.  Our whole College benefits from the diversity and richness of an inclusive school community reflecting  society. In our Loreto and Jesuit tradition, we speak of faith and justice in action.

You may support the John XXIII College Bursary to create a place for a future student.

All donations over $2 to the Bursary Fund are tax deductible, and every dollar of your donation is used for the education of students in our Bursary program.
