Religious Education

All students attending St Louis de Montfort's Aspendale have the right to feel safe. The care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people is a fundamental responsibility of all within our school.                                                                                     Marylene Douglas

Next week the world comes together to celebrate World Refugee Week.

A refugee is any person who is too afraid to live in their own country because they are persecuted for the colour of their skin, for what they believe, for their nationality, or for what they think. Because of this fear, they feel too scared to return. They flee to other countries where they want to build a safer and happier life.

Let us pray that here in Australia we will accept refugees with open arms and a warm welcome. Especially as we here in Australia (the Lucky Country) are showered with so many blessings and our lives are so rich.

Help us to be grateful for food, clothing and shelter, for the safe communities we live in, for places to play, for schools where we can learn, for churches where we can worship.

May we have warm words, generous hearts and welcoming arms to those who are refugees so that we can make a difference in their lives.

Words from Pope Francis:

Dear brothers and sisters, and, in a special way, young people! If we want to cooperate with our heavenly Father in building the future, let us do so together with our brothers and sisters who are migrants and refugees. Let us build the future today! For the future begins today and it begins with each of us. We cannot leave to future generations the burden of responsibility for decisions that need to be made now, so that God’s plan for the world may be realized and his Kingdom of justice, fraternity, and peace may come.

Prayer

Lord, make us bearers of hope, so that where there is darkness, your light may shine, and where there is discouragement, confidence in the future may be reborn.

Lord, make us instruments of your justice, so that where there is exclusion, fraternity may flourish, and where there is greed, a spirit of sharing may grow.

Lord, make us builders of your Kingdom, together with migrants and refugees and with all who dwell on the peripheries.

Lord, let us learn how beautiful it is to live together as brothers and sisters.

Amen.
