Updates from Miss Maree

Welcome to Term Three

I can't believe I'm even saying Term Three - where has the first half of the year gone?? I hope everyone had a relaxing break and managed to avoid the dreaded flu or covid, I'm not sure which one is worse at the moment.

We welcome two new families to our lovely community:  Bonnie and Christian Gaehl and their children River (Year 2) and Frankie (Foundation) and Fiona and Darren Munday and their three children Ivy (Year 3), Luke (Year 1) and Adam (Foundation). We hope you feel welcomed and supported in your time at St Joseph's.

We extend our condolences to Darren and his family on the loss of his Mum, Marlene and the children's Nan. Our prayers and thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

Deb Randles has begun this term as our new Pastoral Wellbeing Officer and has already settled in to the role beautifully. Deb will be on site Tuesday and Wednesday each week, either in the classrooms, with Autumn the therapy dog, or in the garden. Feel free to drop in and say hello.

Family Maths Night

This week we had our first Family Night session involving Maths. Children and parents had the opportunity to play a variety of maths games and activities with each other in a relaxed environment. The feedback from everyone was fantastic. We hope to have more of these experiences throughout the year.

Learning Conversations

Learning Conversations have been taking place this week and continuing next week. These conversations are an important opportunity for you to sit with your child and their teacher and discuss the achievements and challenges of the first semester and set goals and actions for the remaining terms. Everything tells us that positive, supportive relationships between the learner, parents and school has strong benefits for your child. Thank you for taking this opportunity. Please contact your child’s teacher if you were unable to attend these Learning Conversations.

100 days of school celebration

Today everyone celebrated 100 days of school for our Foundation students in our 100th year of St Joseph's. Students and staff dressed up in olden day clothes, or looking 100 years old and completed activities in buddy groups. We hope everyone had a fun and enjoyable day.

Pupil Free Day

Please note the Pupil Free date is Friday 19th August. On this day staff will be working on curriculum planning.

St Luke's Athletics Day invitation

St Luke's has kindly invited our school to attend and participate in their Athletics Carnival on Monday 29th August which will be held at the athletics track in Shepparton. Students will travel by bus and parents are most welcome to come and watch. A permission note will go home next week with more details. It's a wonderful opportunity for our students to interact with others on a larger scale.

Book Week

Book Week is fast approaching and our school dress up parade will be on Wednesday 24th August. The theme is 'Dreaming With Your Eyes Open' however you can come dressed as any book character if you like. Last year at my old school I came dressed as Mary Poppins. I wonder what I will be this year????

Local library visits

Starting next week all students will have the opportunity to visit the local library on Fridays and borrow books if they have a personal library membership card. To get one of these parents must fill out a form and take it to the library to be sighted (the school cannot do this). The forms will be sent home if you are interested in joining the library (no charge).

We Need Your Help

As part of our 100 Year celebrations the school is looking to make a better connection with our 'House Teams' to give them names that have significant meaning to our school/community. If you have any suggestions please send an email to principal@sjnagambie.catholic.edu.au to have your say.

Semester One Reports Survey

Semester One reports were sent home last term with a letter outlining the new format. So that we can provide the best possible report for you and your child could you please spend 5 mins completing the following survey. It is completely anonymous - so please tell us what you really think.
