Dunhelen

End of Semester One

Wow! What a term. We are already halfway through 2022. It has been a bit of a ‘rollercoaster’ but we got there. The students have experienced things like camp, SSV sport, Ancients Day, Medieval Day, House Athletics Carnival, House Lunchtime activities and College performances, just to name a few. I congratulate all Dunhelen students for their fine work and their resilience in times when it has been a bit tough.  Well done!

Semester One Reports

Semester One reports will be available next week. Please do look through these, including the Approaches to Learning, and discuss with your child. Some students will be very pleased with how they are developing. Other students might find that perhaps they could have achieved a little more. Hopefully, a discussion about this will be an incentive to try a little harder next semester. There will be ample opportunity for students to develop further and join in with some of the extra-curricular activities that the College offers in Semester Two.

Fond Farewell to Dunhelen

As many of you will know, this is my last newsletter as Head of Middle School. Next term, I find myself back in the Primary School and I look forward to this next chapter of my life.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Head of Dunhelen. I have loved working with the students and watching them grow over a three-year period, which is a big jump at this age. They have made me smile every day. I have also enjoyed meeting and working with the parents, and I thank you all for your ongoing support of the College. I would like to think that I have made a little bit of a difference to the College and even to the lives of some of our students. However, I am not naïve enough to think that I have done it without help and constant support. I have been blessed in this role to have not only the support of Mrs Crisara and Mr Forward, but also the constant support of Mrs Jacinta Perilli and the Assistant Heads of School. Throughout my time as Head of School I have been very ably assisted by Mr Ben Prentice, Mrs Elpis Vlahopoulos, Mrs Caron Flynn, and until next week, I continue to work with Mr Michael Patchell, Ms Jacquelyne Armstrong and Mr Tassie Eleftheriou. I could not have ever asked for more dedicated, caring, compassionate and talented people to work with. They, along with the students, made this role fun.  I truly believe in the idiom, ‘you are only as good as your team’, and this team, old and new, was great and I am certain that they will continue to be so. Teaching is a labour of love, and they all have that love in them.

I thank all the homeroom teachers that I have worked with over the years; I am so appreciative of all their hard work, this made my job so much easier.  Thank you.

Thank you to all, who have in some way or another, been on the Middle School journey with me.

I wish the Dunhelen community a wonderful holiday and hope that it is filled with lots of fun and memorable times with family and friends.
