Assistant Principal Report -Senior School

By Michael Tuck

We have made it through our first full semester of school on-site for quite some time!  It has been pleasing to see students rebuilding habits and routines and also supporting each other.

Year 12 students have completed Unit 3 studies and really only have one full term of classes remaining in their secondary schooling before the Term 4 run in to final exams. It is important for students to find a good balance between taking a break, and maintaining their focus on their studies during the holidays.  Some basic things that could be focussed upon are:

  • Ensuring Unit 3 notes are organised and available for future study
  • Read (and possibly reread!) English texts
  • Reviewing feedback from tasks to find areas to improve for Unit 4
  • Read ahead in subjects
  • Research post-school options

You aren’t expected to do all of these things, but being strategic in this holiday period will pay dividends later in the year.

The year 10 and 11 examination period concluded positively.  Students should have received results and exams this week. Reviewing these exams and thinking about the approach you took to these exams is a valuable exercise.  Again, look for areas for improvement and consider the steps you can take that will prepare you better for next time.

Congratulations to our VCAL and year 10 students for surviving their work experience week(s). I’ve heard many positive reports and exciting stories about their time in various workplaces. Thanks as well to the Pathways team for facilitating this, it is huge job with the number of students we have.

Finally, I will be away for the first four weeks of term 3.  While I am away Mr James Cumming will be taking over my role.  Please contact him with any queries you would usually contact me about.  I hope all students and families have a restful break and look forward to seeing you all mid next term.
