25th Anniversary Celebrations
25th Anniversary
Cecil Hills High School celebrated its 25th + 1 year Anniversary after delays caused by lockdowns during Covid. The SRC selected the theme of 'Celebrating Diversity' to highlight the diverse cultural backgrounds of our students and staff.
The celebrations began with two assemblies that were attended by students in Years 7 to 12 and the Support Unit. Mr Lane read out a speech on behalf of Mr Sutton and Miss Sahid read out a speech on behalf of our founding Principal, Mr John McGregor. Cecil Hills High School's former Principal, Mr Sean Bowen, also addressed the students and reinforced the importance of our unofficial school motto 'Working With Your Teachers'.
Other guest speakers included our school captains from 2005 and 2007, Tarsha Gavin and Mihajla Gavin, who shared their experiences and some tips for students going through high school.
Students showcased their incredible talents in a number of performances that left everyone wanting more. The Pacifica Dance group performed to three different songs representing Tonga and Samoa. Year 9 dance students and our Support Unit students wowed the audience with their amazing choreography. We also had some musical entertainment and a video by the SRC showing us the time capsule and what students thought diversity at Cecil Hills High School represented.
The assemblies were followed by an extended lunch for students which kicked off with a bang in the main quad with the lion dance. This was followed by a fashion show with staff and students modelling the most beautiful traditional clothing from around the world.
Students enjoyed a range of cultural foods including Italian woodfire pizza and Turkish gozleme. Our Year Advisers and the Hospitality students also had food stalls with profits going to nominated charities. With the help of our incredible staff and students, the celebrations were a success with smiles all around.
Year 12 Holiday Workshops
Year 12 Trial Examinations will be held in Weeks 2 and 3 of Term 3. We have a number of teachers giving up their time to run holiday workshops for students. Students have received a copy of the schedule and are encouraged to attend and use the break time to prepare for their upcoming examinations.
