Award Winners Celebrate

We had the opportunity to come together in the Library and share a fabulous morning tea to celebrate with award winners from the 2021 Premier’s Reading Challenge.

  • Certificates were awarded on successful completion of the 2021 Challenge.
  • Gold Awards were given to those students who have completed the Challenge for four years in succession.
  • Platinum Awards were given for those completing the Challenge for the seventh year.

A total of 64 students completed the Challenge in 2021. That’s 1,280 books read! These students are rewarded with CHAMP points, and their achievement noted on their school reports. At Cecil we value our readers.

Three of our students received a Premier’s Reading Challenge Medal. This recognises that they have completed the challenge every year from Year 3 to Year 9. Putting this into perspective it means they have read 180 books. Knowing the reading habits of these three students, we suspect they have read way beyond what they’ve recorded for the Challenge!  Congratulations to:

  • Allegra Ng
  • Abbey-Jorja Maraun
  • Portia Magallanes

We are looking forward to more success with the 2022 Challenge which is underway. There are already students who have finished!

This year’s challenge closes on Friday 19th August. Keep reading and see our Library staff if you need help entering your reading record. The holidays are a perfect time to “get lost in a book”.

New books in the Library

Lara Kurtonal and Kristy Quang in Year 8 are very excited that our new book order has arrived in the Library.

Lara had requested My Hero Acadamia which she tells me, is a graphic novel series about a boy named Izuku Midoriya who gets a “quirk” (a superpower) from the number one hero All Might and then he gets into the best hero acadamia (UA) Here they train there to become heroes.

She recommends this for others to read. She also enjoys the illustrations.

Kristy requested Demon Slayer to add to the series already in the Library. She is reading to prepare herself for an upcoming episode and movie.

Here is a picture of some of the other new books and also those recently returned that were delivered this week. There are more to come. Visit us soon to pick up a new read.

In more news, Year 7 received their books as a gift from the school to encourage reading over the holidays. A perfect match for the Winter Warmer Reading Challenge.
