Year 8 Selfless Act

The Year 8’s spent time proposing, planning and performing an act that was considered selfless. The students all got involved baking for neighbours or family members, handing out food packs to the homeless and thinking of ways to make people smile. We reflected on the idea that if we begin with kind acts, we spread that kindness across the community. Below are some reflections from our students.

‘We made food packs for homeless people and went to the city to deliver them. We learnt that they will not always accept it but the gesture is still kind.’

‘I made cookies for my neighbour, it was wonderful to see their reaction of surprise. I learnt that doing something small can make someone’s day.’

Asher K

‘I made muffins for my neighbour who is old and recently came out of hospital. She was very grateful as she lives alone and not a lot of people do this for her. I learnt that I could add value to my life and hers through this.’

Eleanor H

‘I baked some cupcakes and biscuits for people at my dad’s work. I then packaged them nicely and wrote a nice note for each person. I learnt that even though I didn't expect to get anything back from people by doing this act, I still got a lovely message from one of them which shows their appreciation. I think this experience helped us learn about the importance of being selfless.’

St Kilda Mum’s Winter Solstice Coat Drive

We are collecting warm winter coats, jumpers and jeans in children's sizes 2 to 14 for St Kilda Mums.

These will be collected at the SPA Winter Solstice event on Friday 17 June.

Consider beginning to clean out some of the clothes that don’t fit your children anymore and be ready to bring it along on the night. This will help ensure that every child has warm clothing that fits this winter.
