Principals' Update

Swimming Sports Carnival

We had a spectacular day for our Swimming Sports Carnival yesterday. The day was extremely successful due to the coordination of staff and parent volunteers. The students had a great time and there were some exhausted bodies around school yesterday afternoon. Thank you to Chris, Maddi and our Friends of Sports Team who organised and coordinated the event.

No Assembly Tomorrow Due To Hot Weather

We are expecting a 39-degree day tomorrow and have decided to cancel our weekly assembly. It will be way too hot in the sun and in the hall. All Student of the Week Awards will be presented at next week's assembly.

Hot Weather Timetable

Today we had a Hot Day timetable for lunchtime. All students remained inside and participated in quiet activities in the cool of the school buildings. We will most likely do the same tomorrow as the day is expected to be even hotter than today. Please send your child to school with plenty of water and SunSmart clothing. A frozen water bottle would also assist in keeping them cool in the extreme heat.

Air Conditioning in the Year 5/6 Classrooms (Not soon enough!)

Over the school holidays we had air conditioning units installed in the Year 5/6 classrooms. Unfortunately we have not been able to use them as the Karawun Building needed an electrical upgrade in order to support these additional units. We are hoping that these air conditioners will be operational mid next week.

School Council

The final School Council meeting for the 2022 School Council will be held on Wednesday 22 February at 6:00 pm. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our 2022 School Council members for their ongoing support during yet another challenging year. The CNPS School Council has played a pivotal role in campaigning for funding for our school buildings. Without their support we would not have received the election promise of 8.4 Million for school refurbishment and upgrades.

Call for Nominations for Parent and Staff Representatives on School Council

Please see the official notification attached for the Notice of Election and Call for Nominations for School Council. If you would like to self-nominate or nominate a parent/carer or staff member, please contact the office.

Vacancies:

This year we have 2 vacancies for Parent Membership and 1 vacancy for Staff Membership.

We also have 2 vacancies for Community Members. The community member category is an optional category for school

councils. Community members are co-opted onto council, usually at the first meeting of the newly elected council and cannot be Department Employees. Community members typically bring special skills, interests, or experience to the council such as:

- members from parent clubs

- accountants

- digital technology skills and/or

- project management skills.

Community members generally have the same rights, responsibilities and terms of office as elected members unless otherwise provided in Ministerial Order 1280.

Please contact the school if you have any further questions about the role of School Council.

SunSmart Clothing and Safe Shoes for School

A reminder to please send your children to school in SunSmart Clothing in order to protect them from the UV rays during the day. With extremely hot weather upon us, we are seeing a number of students wearing singlets or clothing without sleeves where their shoulders are exposed. Although we will most likely have a hot weather timetable at lunchtime tomorrow, there will be times when your child is outside and exposed to the sun and UV rays.

We also ask that your child wears safe shoes for school. Unfortunately, shoes such as sandals where toes are exposed do not meet the Occupational Health and Safety requirements for schools.

150 Year Anniversary

This year, Carlton North Primary celebrates its 150th year as a school. The school’s official birthday is 28 July and we are seeking an expression of interest from CNPS families and the wider community to form a 150 Year Anniversary Committee to lead celebrations of 150 years of schooling at CNPS. If you are interested in joining this committee we ask that you email the school carlton.north.ps@education.vic.gov.au
