Journeying Together in Christ

Some of my experiences last week highlighted to me that the Catholic Identity of St. Luke's and our diocesan schools is very positive . The first experience was my attendance at the Diocesan Assembly with around 400 staff from schools, parishes and the Catholic Education Sandhurst staff. This was held at MOVE in Kialla. Music, prayer, reflection and sharing was the tasks for the day. I was able to share with many people I did not know. I shared how our young people, young adults and schools are striving to live out our Catholic Identity.

The second experience was at the NDC opening mass where Bishop Shane celebrated mass along with fellow priests. 'Seek, See, Respond' is the theme for NDC in 2023. They are revisiting the colleges motto. It was a special mass with beautiful singing and prayer. The Bishop's homily was excellent and so relevant for the students. I saw many ex-St. Luke's children taking part in the mass and simply being there. I was so proud of them.

The third event was our Hello/Movie night. This was the highlight for me. People were present, happy and talking. The children enjoyed showing off their school, playing, sharing a meal and watching a film. We have a beautiful, rich and diverse community and I thank everyone for being present.

The final experience was at our assembly. Kindness was shared. I was visited by some senior students that afternoon and they verbally shared way I am kind and thanked me. It was a fantastic end to my week.

I thank the community group for organising the outdoor movie and cooking pancakes for us on Shrove Tuesday. Thank you staff for the extras you do. The parents and leadership team are very grateful for the way you embrace your roles at St. Luke's.

And today, see my photos for our Walk for Solidarity.

Past Student Excels!

NDC student Comfort Nhanhanga recoreded an ATAR in the top 10%. We congratulate Comfort snd I am sure his parents were very proud of him.

School Advisory Open Formation Session

Paul Bissinella from Catholic Education Sandhurst will lead a formation session on Tuesday 14th March at 7:00pm in our Auditorium. All parents are welcome. You will receive an email next week outlining our plans for 2023, encouraging new members and a summary of the Advisory Council's role. Our two groups: Community Group and Advisory Council are very positive and supportive bodies. They have different roles. Every parent can offer something to our school.

LENT

Lent is a liturgical season beginning with Ash Wednesday and ending on Holy Thursday. It includes six Sundays, the five Sundays of Lent and Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord.

I was speaking with Foundation Levesque and asking them some questions about Lent snd Easter. Teachers hear some very special comments and we treasure them. When asked what happens on Easetr Sunday one little person said, "We turn Jesus on like a light". How beautiful is that reflection which helps that little person understand Jesus rising on Easter Sunday. We then spoke about candles in the church or when we say a prayer. The flame/light represents Jesus.

Opening Mass

This will be held next Friday at 11:00am. The children will have their normal fruit, and their recess (not lunch). We will return around 12:30pm, go into class and have their lunch at 2:00pm. If individual unit groups think the children need to eat earlier once we return they will make the call. If this changes we will not need to communicate it to you as the children will still have time to eat.

We will have assembly at 2:30pm as normal.

Condolences

We keep several families in our prayers. They have lost loved ones (Grandparent) either during the Christmas holiday period or in recent times. Please keep the Shroeders (Joseph, Lachlan, Louise, Natasha), Gemmil (Archer, Flynn) , Busa (Wollow) and Hoornweg (Lucy) families in our prayers. We pray for the children at our school, their siblings and parents. May God bring you comfort.
