Writing

Our students have been working hard on showcasing their writing skills. They have undertaken the process of planning, writing, giving feedback and then using that feedback to edit. All of these steps help us to be good writers. Over the next few weeks we are going to continue this process with a focus on writing persuasively.

Mathematics

Fractions is the topic that we will spend a lot of time on over this year. It is an important part of our mathematics in grade 6. Over the past few weeks we have been looking at benchmarking to help students place fractions on a number line. We have been learning to find equivalent fractions and we have also been matching fractions with decimals.

Inquiry

The last few weeks during Inquiry, students have had an opportunity to role play. The first session, we learnt about an argument vs a disagreement. Students had to write an argument and then a disagreement and perform it to the class. This was a fabulous interactive lesson, which was so good to see a different side to many students as they put on their character. The following lesson, students were presented with the words; Respect, Loyalty and Honesty. We discussed the meaning of these words and students took these into consideration when looking at a dilemma. In groups of 3, students had mini debates about a dilemma. Students took it in turns to decide if they should tell the truth or lie e.g. Should you lie to protect your friend from getting in trouble?

The students were extremely engaged with the task and we had some great conversations!

Buddy time

Last Friday, the grade 6 students had an opportunity to connect with their prep buddies. We started by doing some dancing, then we played with the parachute and lastly we did some drawing. It was so lovely to see all of our students making connections and being a good role model to our beautiful prep buddies. We are so proud of the grade 6 students for making such a big effort with them.

Zooper Doopers

Over the past fortnight, some students have had an opportunity to begin selling Zooper Doopers. We have had 2 extreme cases for our first 2 weeks. The grade 6 students have handled the pressure extremely well. Once again, we are so proud of these students and they are showing fabulous leadership. Keep up the great work!
