Grade 5/6 Students

Celebrating our fantastic Fives and sensational Sixes!

5/6A - Mr E

Our class has been busy with a variety of subjects this week. We have been focusing on completing our holiday recounts and have been working applying the Stages of Writing strategy. We have also been learning about decimal place value and how it can be represented. We are reading a variety of texts and have been having fun making connections between them and our own experiences. We discovered that this helps us to better understand the stories and characters we are reading about. We have been using our imagination and creativity to bring the texts to life.

5/6B - Mr Sankovic

In 5/6B this week, we wrote a class Acknowledgement of Country. The students wrote one each and we compiled them to form a class agreed acknowledgement. Students who applied for SRC gave a speech and Osha was voted in as our class rep, well done, Osha! As always a focus has been placed on wellbeing and the puzzle has been a popular option for those who need a brain break or to ‘take 5’ before getting back to it!

5/6C - Miss Jackie

In 5/6C we continued to get to know our classmates and learn about each other’s favourite things. Here are some examples of the students amazing artwork displayed on t-shirts.

We have been refreshing our knowledge on The Stages of Writing, where we worked collaboratively to rewrite each stage from planning to publishing. It was fantastic to see the teamwork shown by each student to produce their awesome posters and use this process to write their own recounts of their wonderful holiday adventures. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading each one.

5/6D - Mr Mitch

It has been a wonderful start to the year for the 5/6 students. In Maths, we have begun a unit on place value. The students enjoyed working both individually and collectively to solve various opened-ended tasks. Below was a task that challenged the students to create the largest number possible with the inclusion of a dice and various round (competing against a partner) (Annabelle N.).

This week we also started a narrative writing unit. The students recognise the importance of planning to ensure that ideas are clearly thought out and consistent throughout the story. Below is the fantastic work from Polly W.

5/6E - Miss Lee

Welcome to 5/6E for Week 4. Busy, busy, busy and having lots of fun learning has been the re-occurring theme in our amazing classroom. The students have been working on creative recounts of their holidays. They have developed imaginary letters, diary entries and even a text conversation as vehicles to share their summer activities. There has been some very entertaining pieces that have quite frankly had me giggling quite uncontrollably. There has certainly been lots of amazing adventures recounted which has allowed the students to really get to know each other. Here is April hard at work with her writing.

We have also commenced the term with lots of open-ended maths tasks and working with lots of numbers. Here are Finn and Elias playing some dice games as an introduction to a maths lesson.
