Science

This week in Science:

This year students will be taking part in science lessons once a week for a Semester. This Semester it’s the 3/4s & 5/6s.

Last week we commenced our Force and Motion unit with an investigation about speed. We discussed what speed means, and considered varied and constant speed. Then students were challenged to walk at a constant speed for a set distance; 8 metres in 8 seconds. Students compiled the class data to look at how the speed varied.

This week we have been looking at factors influencing the motion of objects such as friction, gravitational force and air resistance. Students first made a prediction about which object they thought would travel the furthest and their reason; golf ball, tennis ball, battery or cardboard cylinder. They tested, measured and recorded their results. Then students compared the results to their predictions, and considered why this may or may not have been different.
