Tutoring and Support Programs 2023

In 2023, we are fortunate to be able to provide support programs at Rangeview Primary School.

The Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI) is driven by student learning need, with students ranging from those who already had additional learning needs prior to the period of remote and flexible learning in 2020 and 2021, to those students who were previously progressing at or above level, but whose learning progress was most impacted by remote and flexible learning in 2020 and 2021.

The teaching practices of differentiation, personalisation and student-centred learning are the foundation for the specific interventions delivered by our talented tutoring staff.

Tutors collaborate with classroom teachers to work with small groups of students for approximately one term, to determine the students point of need and implement evidenced-based, high impact strategies, to progress the learning.

Our tutors for 2023 are:

Maths Tutoring and Extension - Meg Hubbard

Quick Smart Maths - Kim Haby

Literacy Support - Claire Pape

Literacy Tutoring - Tania Balderston & Megan Taylor

English as an Additional Language (EAL) - Mila Arcenas

If your child has been selected to take part in our tutoring program, you will be notified.

Assessment - The English Online Interview

In Term 1, all students in Foundation and Level 1 in Victorian government schools will take part in the English Online Interview (EOI).

For Foundation students, this assessment will occur from Monday 30th January until Friday 3rd March 2023.

For Level 1 students, this assessment will occur from Monday 13th February until Friday 17th March 2023.

The English Online Interview (EOI) is an online tool for assessing the English skills of students across the 3 modes of English in the Victorian Curriculum F-10 – Reading and Viewing, Writing and Speaking and Listening.

The interview is one-to-one between a teacher and student, using texts and downloadable resources. Teachers record each student's responses directly onto the online system. This data is used to generate reports that provide an overview of student achievement and diagnostic information to inform program planning and resource allocation.

NAPLAN 2023 - Level 3 and Level 5

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will commence on Wednesday 15th March for all students in Level 3 and Level 5.

NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents and carers to see how their child is progressing against the national standards and over time.

In previous years, NAPLAN took place in May, however from 2023, NAPLAN will occur each year in March.

In 2023, the Level 3 Writing assessment will continue to be completed on paper. All other assessments are computer-based, adaptive testing, where the test presents questions which may be more or less difficult depending on a student’s responses.

NAPLAN dates at Rangeview Primary School are as follows:

9.00am – 11.00am Level 3

12.00pm – 1.30pm Level 5

Catch-up tests for any students that were absent

Where possible, we may arrange for individual students who are absent at the time of testing to complete missed tests at another time during the school’s test schedule after the main cohort test.

Students in Level 3 and 5 are not expected to study for NAPLAN. You can support your child by reassuring them that NAPLAN is a part of their school program and reminding them to simply do their best. Some familiarisation and explanation of NAPLAN is useful to help students understand and be comfortable with the format of the tests. Teachers will ensure students are familiar with the types of questions in the tests and will provide appropriate support and guidance. ACARA does not recommend excessive preparation for NAPLAN or the use of services by coaching providers.
