Student Leadership at Trinity is based on the belief that as a learning community we need to:
- encourage student voice and build pride and commitment to the school
- provide a wide variety of leadership opportunities which cater for all students’ interests
- maximise the number of students undertaking leadership roles
- ensure that opportunities for student leadership are rotated amongst all students in each level
- provide ‘leadership’ role models for the younger students
- build student agency to support engagement, learning outcomes, connections and wellbeing
- develop a school culture of excellence, respect and inclusivity
- create a positive and collaborative school community
- Leadership positions are also from classes Prep to 6 in the school in the Student Representative Council (SRC)
This week every class engaged in discussions about the role and responsibility of the SRC (Student Representative Council) and why we have an SRC at Trinity.
Part of the discussion was also to consider why student voice is so important and the qualities a Class Leader needs to have.
Students that nominated themselves for the role of Class Leader then presented to their class a short speech as to why they believe they would make a great Class Leader. Students in the class then voted for their Class Leader.
Students appointed will make a commitment to the role for that semester ( Term 1 & 2) and then voting again in Semester 2 ( Term 3 & 4)
Part of their commitment is to lead a Class Meeting weekly and also attend a School Leaders and SRC meeting every Monday at lunchtime in the library and be part of the special activities and projects of the SRC. I am really excited to work with the School Leaders and the SRC and to promote student voice at Trinity!
Class Leaders will be presented with their SRC badges at Monday morning assembly on
Monday 13 February.
SRC and School Leaders will meet on Monday at lunch time in the library to review our meeting charter and the expectations of leading Class Meetings.
