Principal's Message

Diverse ~ Accepting ~ Inclusive Community

Dear Parents, Families and Friends,

Week 3! It's been the usual fast and furious start to the year with the Homework Centre, Subject Help, Music Tuition and Ex- Activities all underway.

May I remind you that the Schoolbox app, once downloaded, will alert you to any changes or updates to the many activities on offer each day? Schoolbox is a vital communication link between the College and our parents and carers.

The P&FA AGM was held last week with Yvette Valentine (President), Jen Inglis (Treasurer) and Lizzie Edwards (Secretary) being elected to the positions. I want to thank Lizzie for her six years of service as President and for continuing in the role of Secretary. I'd also like to acknowledge Sally Trigg, who has joined the College Board's finance committee and will resign as the P&FA Treasurer after two years of service. Paul Bailey, our Enterprise Development and Foundation Coordinator, does a wonderful job hosting and chairing these events each term.

The Art Trip to Melbourne was conducted successfully, with senior students exposed to various Drama, Music, Art, and Photography activities. I'm grateful to Lilli Morgan for organising the logistics and itinerary and to Ed Nicholson and Erin Darrigan for helping supervise 27 students over six days.

The Year 12 Leaders did a fantastic job ensuring Valentine's Day was enjoyable for staff and students. The students shared in cards, flowers and songs across year levels, and a special shout-out goes to our College Captain, Rasheed Ladouce, for organising the delivery of these delights to everybody.

I'm pleased to report that the uniform standard is improving, and hat-wearing, especially in this extreme heat, is evident. I encourage parents to communicate with their Tutor Group teachers or Head of House if any support is needed in ensuring a high standard of dress is achieved every day. Tammy Hawkins, our Deputy Principal of Well-Being, has communicated directly with many parents regarding facial piercings. There seems to be an abundance of piercings over the holidays – please see page 20 of the diary or look on Schoolbox if you are unclear about our jewellery policy. We have set high standards of behaviour and dress this year and would greatly appreciate our parents' support in upholding the integrity of our school culture.

Our Vocational Education Program (VET) at CDU kicks off next week for continuing students. We also have Musical Auditions and a Round Square Assembly to look forward to in Week 4. The Umbrella Collection will host an after-school movie screening of "Strange World" in the Fred Shed on Thursday.
