The Principal's Desk

Dear parents, families and friends,

The students have continued their amazing and positive start to the year with many events already happening across the year levels.

On Tuesday, our Year 6 students made pancakes for all the students and staff for Shrove/Pancake Tuesday which signifies the day before the beginning of Lent.

On Wednesday, all students attended Ash Wednesday Mass . This is a day of reflection and each child received ashes on their forehead. The Ash Wednesday ashes are created by burning palms from the previous year's Palm Sunday celebration.

Thank you to all the parents that came along to the Learning Conversations. This is always seen by teachers as an opportunity for parents to tell us about their child as well as a chance for teachers to talk about some of the things that might be happening in the classroom. We look forward to meeting many more parents across the course of the year as we all work together to educate your children for their future.

Prep Parents Wine and Cheese Evening

What a wonderful evening was had by all who attended.  It was lovely to see so many of our Prep parents come along and enjoy a sip of wine and yummy food.  This night allowed parents to get to know each other and begin to make connections with other parents, staff and the wider school community as they begin their child's primary school journey.  Thank you to our Parent and Friends' representatives who organised and helped throughout the night:  Kate, Karen, Vanessa & Bec.

Family Picnic BYO

ANNUAL FAMILY PICNIC –Don’t forget to come along on Thursday the 2nd March 6:00- 8:00pm and share in some social time. This is an opportunity which brings our whole school community together at the start of the year to reconnect or connect with each other.  Please bring your own food, drinks, picnic blankets etc... We are looking forward to a wonderful night.

CLEAN UP SCHOOL DAY/AFTERNOON - Friday 3rd March

Sunday 5th March is Clean up Australia day.  We will be having our Clean Up School Afternoon on FRIDAY 3rd MARCH.  All students are able to come dressed in casual clothes ready for an afternoon of cleaning. They do not need to bring along any cleaning tools for this. Please let your child's classroom teacher know if they cannot have a Zooper Dooper.

School Photos - Tuesday 7th March

Come along hair brushed, smiles wide and faces clean.

All children must be in Full Summer Uniform.  If your child has Sport lesson on this day, they may bring their runners in a bag and change into them after photos have been taken.

Please refer to email that was sent.

Birthday Protocols

Birthdays are very special days for students and we know that they love giving little 'goody' bags' to their class.  Aligning with the schools policy of 'NO FOOD SHARING', we ask that if your child does want to give something to their class that it does not contain any items of food.  Some ideas could be:  pencils, erasers, bubbles, stickers, whistles etc...

Fitness Fridays

Your child will already have had their first Sport lesson this week.  Students are also able to wear their sports uniform on Fridays as many classes have fitness Friday activities in the afternoon.  If you have any questions, please contact your child's class teacher.

Closure Day - Friday 10th March

This will be a school closure day for students.  Staff will be at school on this day participating in an Intervention Framework Professional Learning.  This day is being facilitated by a member of the MACS team. OshCLUB will be available on this day for students, if needed.

School Open Day - Saturday 25th March

We will be holding our School Open Day on Saturday 25th March from 12 - 3 pm.  Please let any families you are aware of know about this date.  The aim of the Open Day is to promote our school to the local community of Yarraville and to increase enrolments across all year levels, but especially for Prep.  We will need volunteers to assist with packing the showbags, cooking the sausage sizzle, setting and packing up, running sports or craft activities and welcoming visitors. An Operoo form will be sent out in a couple of weeks for how to volunteer.

School Absences

If you know that your child will be absent or has an appointment, please email your child's class teacher, as well as, the office email:  office@sayarraville.catholic.edu.au

Headlice

We have had a few cases of head lice in various classes. Please check your child's hair.  If your child does have head lice, please email the classroom teacher and office.  Once the headlice has been treated they are able to come to school.
