Assistant Principal's Message

Dear parent and carers,

What a wonderful few weeks it’s been at Roxburgh Homestead PS. The focus on teaching and learning has continued and after a successful Set Up programs in Literacy, Numeracy and Positive Climate for Learning students and teachers are really starting to unpack their learning goals and explore new challenges in their classrooms.

Our Senior school students and teachers returned, very tiredly, from a wonderful school camp last week. Venturing off into the city and exploring some of Melbourne’s great sites was an eye opener for many and our students showed great pride by representing our school wonderfully during the urban camp experience.

At the other end of our school, our Foundation students have began their schooling at Homestead in a calm and settled way. They’re transition into primary school life has been wonderful to watch and in only 4 short weeks they have become valued members of our community and watching their development over the years will be great to see. Parents, carers and teachers need to be commended for the way in which they have prepared our Foundation students to be independent learners and take on the sometimes-challenging tasks of the first term at primary school.

Student Wellbeing

The feedback we received from our Body Movement sessions that took place in the first 4 weeks of school was very positive and some of our other program focused on student wellbeing such a Canine Comprehension and Art Therapy will continue throughout the year. Seeing many of our teachers taking classes out in the yard to work through Play is the Way activities and games has helped many of our students to develop stronger cooperative and social skills that will help them to better collaborate and resolve issues that may present in the yard.

Soft Start

As many parents will have noticed the morning process has altered lightly at Homestead and we know longer play music during our Soft Start (8:50am-9:00am) as students are first making their way into class. This has allowed students to be greeted by their teachers as they arrive to school and organise themselves and their classroom to be ready for learning to begin at 9am in a calm and orderly way.

Drop Off and Pick up

Can I please ask our parents and carers when dropping off and picking up students before and after school to please be patient whilst waiting. Tooting car horns for attention or double park waiting for their children to get in the car doesn’t allow for a calm environment and can cause distractions when children are crossing the road. Please remember to follow all road rules to ensure the safety of our community.

Thanks

Pat
