John XXIII Rowing Club

Well done to all girls for their first week on the water.  It has been wonderful to see enthusiasm and focus from the beginning of the season. Next week we welcome back the boys to the river, and I have no doubt that they will bring the same enthusiasm and focus as the girls.

I would like to thank all the rowers and parents for communicating absences from training and following the new procedure.  This is a huge help to our coaches planning and translates to more time on the water.

South West Head of the River - 24 & 25th March 2023

The South West Head of the River is fast approaching! This fun regatta is held at the Bunbury Rowing Club, Cobblestone Drive, Bunbury (map https://goo.gl/maps/r8rFoZTXgH92 ) on Saturday 25 March.

Rowers and their families traditionally head down on Friday and stay overnight in Bunbury. There are many accommodation options in Bunbury, most families stay at The Lighthouse, The Mantra, or the Lord Forrest. If you haven’t made your accommodation arrangements yet, I would recommend making them soon. Families from other schools also stay in Bunbury overnight.

Family rowing dinner - Friday 24 March

The Rowing Club Committee invites all rowers and their families to share a casual picnic dinner at the Bunbury Rowing Club, at 5:30pm. It is a ‘BYO-EVERYTHING’ event – food, picnic blankets, chairs, plates, cutlery, glasses & drinks!

Regatta

A barbeque breakfast will be provided from 6:30am Sunday morning on the foreshore of the Bunbury Rowing Club. For those families intending to travel down on Saturday 25 March, you will need to be at the Bunbury Rowing Club no later than 7:00am. The Regatta commences at 8:00am and finishes at approximately 1:30pm.

ALL ROWERS will be required for boat unloading on Sunday 26 March at 8:00am.

Pathways

The Schools Pathway VIII Program is a Rowing Australia initiative for the best schoolboy and schoolgirl rowers in each state to compete against each other.  The aim of the Pathway VIII Program is to expose school rowers and coaches to the next level of rowing.  It is a chance to experience the national rowing selection process, compete against their school counterparts from around the country, to work with high-level coaches and support staff and encourage school rowers to make the next step in their rowing pathway.

If your child in Years 11 or 12 is interested in nominating for the pathway program, more information and the nomination form can be found in the link below.

Participants must lodge an online nomination form by 5pm Friday 24 February 2023.
