From Principal Steve | Writing Workshop | Classroom Furniture

Dear Parents and Carers,

You may be aware that Brighton Primary School will conduct our fourth and final professional learning day for this school year on Friday 16th July - Week 1 of Term 3 2021. Students will not attend school on this day while teachers engage in robust professional learning to strengthen both teacher practice and student learning at Brighton Primary School.

On Friday 16th July, our teachers will participate in a full day workshop focused on Writing Workshop. The Reading and Writing Workshop Model is designed to maximise the time students are engaged in purposeful reading and writing. It is a structured time for the teaching and learning of literacy while differentiating instruction in order to accommodate the learning needs of all students as well as fostering a love of reading and writing in a literacy-rich environment.

Writing workshop is a student-centered framework for teaching writing that is based on the idea that students learn to write best when they write frequently, for extended periods of time, on topics of their own choosing.

Literacy consultant, Danny Hyndman will be working with our teachers on this day to deepen their understanding of the writing workshop model while also exploring how to differentiate instruction in order to meet the needs of all students in the class and across the grade level. I have included this link if you are interested to learn more about Writing Workshop.

When students return to school in Term 3, the new student chairs and tables will be installed in classrooms. During Term 3, we also plan to select and purchase new classroom storage units, rugs for the classroom libraries, ottoman seating and a conference table.

Lastly, thank you to parents for your ongoing support and partnership this term especially during remote learning. This strong partnership between the school and parents is essential for the success of our students.

We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday 12th July. Wishing everyone a well deserved June/July break.

With best wishes,
