3/4Joel

This year in 3/4J, we have been working on developing a great culture in our class, with a focus on Kindness and doing things for others. This week was ‘Kindness Day’ and it was the perfect opportunity to recap on everything we have learnt and done throughout the First Semester. We did a random pick of a class mate and produced a kindness poster for them. Some people also did messages and posters for staff members. We have been working really hard on these poster and will be presenting them at assembly tomorrow.

Our class have been learning about Australian geography, flora and fauna this term. We have been learning how to write persuasively and have just begun a unit of work on poetry. In numeracy, there has been a focus on multiplication and division.

5/6

In 5/6, we have been learning about Indigenous culture and connection to country throught the Wayapa Wuurrk program. Each lesson, we start with an acknowledgement to country. 

“We acknowledge that we are gathered on the traditional lands of the Dhudhuroa people. We pay our respects to the elders of our community both past, present and emerging for they hold the customs, the culture and hopes of Indigenous Australia. We call in their guidance and wisdom for this is, was and always will be Aboriginal land.”

Every lesson, we also sing 2 traditional chants in the Gamilaraay language. One is to help us come together to rise and the second is designed to help us wake up ourselves and the land. 

This week we created a gratitude garland using gum leaves. Each leaf tells our individual story of gratitude which has helped us further connect to country by identifying which elements we are the most grateful for. 


Prep

Hello everyone! The Preps have had a very busy start to term 2. We are doing a lot more writing, now that we have learnt all the single sounds, from a to z. Some students are beginning to write longer stories, which is fabulous.

 

This term in Integrated Studies, we are learning about plants and what they need to grow and make more of themselves.

 

We are conducting an experiment at the moment with violet seedlings, to see which grow better according to several criteria, such as having water, light and soil versus no water, darkness and sand. Students have made predictions and we are looking forward to finding out which seedlings grow well and what the conditions need to be to grow beautiful flowers.

 

In Maths, we have been learning about addition and subtraction. This week students began our unit on Time. We are focusing in particular on days of the week and months of the year.

 

At Assembly this week, we will be performing some ‘Garden Sound Scapes’ representing Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn, using percussion instruments. We took our inspiration from Isabella’s Garden and look forward to sharing them with you this Friday.

1/2 Anna

This term in 1/2 we have been learning about punctuation, and why we need to use it in our writing. We have practiced using Kung Fu Punctuation to assist us in learning where the correct punctuation should go when writing and editing our work. We are all able to use full stops, capital letters, question marks, exclamation marks and commas in our written work. 


2/3 Kim Naomi

 

Students in year 2/3 have been creating some wonderful pieces in writing.  Last term, students explored narratives and wrote their own version of the Jack and the Beanstalk story.  Students had to change three elements in the story.  The character Jack, the giant and the giant beanstalk. Students used a story map to plain their writing, wrote a draft and used some editing skills before they could publish their work.  Naomi and I loved reading all the fabulous stories, which we will put on display in the classroom so students can also read each other’s work.                                                       

                                           

This term, we have so far focused on learning about how to write an information report. We have been learning about how to research, plan and structure an information report.  Each day we have focused on a particular element of an information report, structure, language, layout and how to collect information for a report.  Below are some topical paragraphs students have written in their writing books.

 On Wednesday, Grade 5/6 Students visited the information centre. Students are learning about Life in the Kiewa Valley and are completing an information report. Everyone who attended enjoyed learning about our community.
